We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation. We understand the terrible consequences of gun violence; it serves as a reminder that life is fragile, and our time here is limited and precious. We believe in an honest, open national conversation about firearms. We can focus on effective enforcement of existing laws, especially strengthening our background check system, and we can work together to enact commonsense improvements—like reinstating the assault weapons ban and closing the gun show loophole—so that guns do not fall into the hands of those irresponsible, law-breaking few.

The only assault weapons ban should be to ban the Dept f Justice from selling them to Mexican drug lords.

Assault weapons? Don't want any.

Defense weapons? I want many.

I would like some defense weapons, of the "firearm" variety, that are fully automatic. One never knows when you may have to defend yourself from a large number of aggressors. We do have a right to that ability.

The Administration apologists have made a big deal about Obama not stepping on gun rights - so far. I'm willing to bet any of you dinner and a beer at my place (hope you like steak) that if they win, we'll be seeing Executive Orders and other non-sense to try to step all over our nature-given 2A right.

It ain't easy bein' a democrat when I see convention - goers bad mouthing all us Gun-Nuts. They claim to be the all inclusive party, but listen to the responses when they are asked who they DO NOT want to include in thier party. Daily Show with John Stewart.

That OP was one of the most progressive/liberal coded messages i've ever seen. It's obvious they want to ban all but bolt action .22's immediately. They'll take care of those later.

I don't know how long it's been since you've watched The Daily Show, but for a comedy show they have done a good job poking fun at Dimocrats as well. Some of the bits they had at the DNC were spot on. With your conservative views I could see you staying away from Bill Maher for your dose of laughs (he's a bit liberal even for me), but if it's been awhile since you've seen Jon Stewart and his team, it might be worth taking another look. Or not if you're happy with what you're doing already. Either way, I reckon it'll also be easier than making up with your mother-in-law.

I agree, once we're down to .22's they'll yank them and replace them with slingshots and get rid of the bullets in favor of something that's more environmentally friendly.

I know a guy in Missouri who started a chapter in that state. Like me, he's a Liberal, and very pro-2A, though unlike me, he is a Democrat as well. Any promotion of the 2A--like these folks are doing--should be applauded. It's unfortunate that such a group is even necessary.

BTW...as Philip Van Cleave has repeatedly put it, there is no such thing as a "gun show loophole". That's a sound bite from the antis, be they D's or (like Sen. Lugar) R's.

The only problems I see are when Democrats say "Well I like guns, but not THOSE type (fill in the blank)! I WANT THOSE BANNED!"
