Hi all -
The name's Eric, just signed up today - I hadn't been aware that there was a forum like this until just recently.
Learned to shoot as a kid in NY (thanks, Dad), fell out of practice when my parents divorced and we moved to Texas, didn't have much of a chance to get back into it in the military (in my defense, it WAS the Navy. And the range at boot camp when I went through was out of commission - for about 3 months either side of my time at boot camp). After I got out and came to VA and actually started making a little spending money, I got back into it and had a nice little collection of fun stuff - which I ended up having to sell due to financial issues and a move to NoVA to be with my woman who ended up becoming my wife. Now that my stepkids are old enough, my wife's decided it's safe to bring guns into the house, and I actually sent them (wife and kids) to an NRA Basic Pistol class a couple of months ago which they all enjoyed. My sole current firearm came to me from my Dad, who died last winter, but I'm planning on slowly building a collection back up. For fun, not for collection-for-collection's-sake - I think I'd like to try my hand at 3-gun, so I need an AR and a shotgun for that, which I'd want anyways for fun and utility; there are some others I'd like to get as well, and of course I need a .22 for general plinking and my wife wants a smaller/lighter pistol than my 1911 (thinking a .38/.357 revolver), which will probably take priority. Contemplating a membership at Blue Ridge, so I've got somewhere to shoot pistols, at least, and I hear they rent stuff so I can take Lori and let her try different guns out before we buy hers.
