"Police — acting under a state law that allows emergency, temporary psychiatric commitments upon the recommendation of a mental health professional — took Raub to the John Randolph Medical Center in Hopewell. He was not charged with any crime."

......Aaaand there, for all intents and purposes, goes the right to keep and bear arms. Worry any of you?

I don't get it either. Don't see why people put their whole lives on display for the convenience of meddlers, fools and theives. (Not saying all FBers are meddlers, fools and theives, you understand - just that FB makes it very easy for meddlers, fools and theives to stick their noses into your business) But I guess if you really have a message you want to deliver (at least potentially) to a lot of folks, Facebook would be one way to do it.

This is starting to get some media attention now. WCHV in Charlottesville (AM 1270, FM 107.5) mentioned this on their morning drive time show with Joe Thomas. I came in late on it, so I didnt get his entire take on it but his summary was that Raub was taken in due to a misaaplied law and a sort of a horse behind the cart scenario.

the more I here about this the more it upsets me; we should all trawl the net for postings by anti gunners/big government enthusiasts that talk about revolution and violence and complain and see if they get commited too
of course they won't...

It does worry me very much.. They can take this guy hold him for now 30 days with no due process, no recourse, no second opinion on his condition. I am certain this mucks up his ability to own firearms....even if he is cleared now every time he wants to purchase a gun he will have to jump through 10 more hoops unless he can get this whole thing expunged. I will say this again, they are holding him without charging him for 30 days now. How many of our families could do without us for 30 days, how many of us would be "released" from our job if we were gone for 30 days with no notice. I imagine all of us. This is incredible.

People have said much much much more crazy things than what he has said, people have said much more threatening things than what he has said and NOTHING is done to them. The recent ranting of the black panthers come to mind, heck even some of the stuff that President Obamas pastor said was much worse and he is still free. Scary stuff yall.

Personally? I think his family should contact the ACLU, and let them have at it...

Let's see if they support EVERYONE, and if they don't? Point it out!

Kill two birds with one stone.

Good idea.

I heard a liberal station today say his being detained was to avoid public scrutiny later on, should he commit some atrocity. Because then "the people" would question why the government ignored the "warning signs." They brought up the slayings at Ft. Hood by Maj. Nidal Hasan, in which "warning signs were ignored." I was stunned. There are zero similarities between the two cases.

For starters, he's a former Marine, not a current Marine. So basically this is unlawfully detaining a citizen for exercising his 1st Amendment rights, making no overt threats, and breaking no laws.

Huh. They didn't mention the GBLT support line guy with 15 Chik-fil-A sammiches in a backpack that tried to shoot up a christian conservative lobby group office in DC?
Huh.

The mainstream media has no bias.

...and I almost kept a straight face typing that last sentence. Almost. Really.

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Yes, it's quite puzzling. I'm starting to think -- and, I know, this is a crazy, right-wing theory -- but I'm actually starting to think the mainstream media is biased. But no, that can't be because I do recall MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, and the Huffington Post state for the record that they absolutely, positively do not favor one political party or ideology over another. Then I read it on the Internet, so it must be true.

It is on Facebook that they moved him to Roanoke. No information on why or what this means.

I had the privilege to speak to Mom.

Stewart Rhodes, Oath Keepers President and Founder, set up the conference call. There were 5 Oath Keepers, Mom, and a Lawyer or two on the phone at one time.

Oath Keepers will be coordinating with the Lawyers for public protests.

A bit busy to post more.

The Daily Paul was posting Brandon Raub's departure as we were on the phone discussing it. The Lawyers must be feeding them. Just the same a good and timely source of information.

Until then write a short comment and cut and paste it in an email to the Governor and our other reps with email.

It means he is 4 hours from his family. The private hospital did not want the attention they were about to get. As a veteran he is privileged to be served by the VA Administration.

Not Good.

One of the local TV stations had a blurb about the move...
http://www.nbc12.com/story/19339134/det ... m-hospital
Basically, they decided that he needed a 30-day psychological evaluation. Also, the Channel 12 piece quotes a Times-Dispatch article that says this:
NBC12 wrote:In a recent article, the Richmond-Times Dispatch quotes Sean Lawlor, a vet who says he was Raub's platoon commander in Iraq, as saying: "Knowing the man that he is, I believe that he fully intended to act on the threats he was posting."
Interesting...

I still think that they should have to show specific threats not just song lyrics and general discontent to Do what they have done. The tactics being used are very similar to the tactics of the USSR and their political prisoners.
