I am working my way up to shooting 200 yards and need a spotting
scope, any advice on a scope, and how powerful do I need for 200 yards.

A good 50 power spotting scope is more than sufficient. At 200 yds depending on bullet drop and muzzle velocity you should be able to see a faint vapor trail. Good luck

This might sound a little strange, but make sure you get something with "good" glass. Like a Nikon, Zeiss, or other higher end scope. What ever you can afford, the lower end models from Tasco and such just don't cut it for the precision and clarity you will need even at 100 yards. I only mention this because I have both telescopes and spotting scopes, and of course started out with what I could afford, and not beating on Tasco, they are fine for the price point, but once you get past 75 or so yards, and try to crank up the power to see those 30 caliber holes mine would get muddy and loose it's clarity. In contrast I have an old telescope which has high end glass in it, and even at 500 yards it's razor sharp. That unit is not very practical for carry to the range use but you get the idea. I know higher end scopes cost a good bit more, but you are paying for the quality glass they use to make the lenses.

I picked up a Simmons cheap on CL, 20-60x60. looks ok at 100 yards, 200 may be hard to see if not in sun light
