Won't defend/condem the officer, since I don't know the facts.

I can only say that personally, and maybe it's just my personality, the only thought that would be going through my mind at that moment would be to rescue/assist the injured people involved. You can save the anger for later. I've actually administered first aid to a woman who hit my car before. Was I happy? No. Was making sure another person was ok more important than that? Yes, absolutely.

I wish a speedy recovery to the girl, her cousin, and yes the officer as well. Tragic circumstances upon tragic circumstances.

Nothing really says his first priority wasn't the girl but if someone wants to start a fight with you there is only so much you can do.

The guy left his kid unsupervised beside a 4 lane road at 10:30pm. Stupid kid runs for the street because she is used to it and nearly gets killed by a motorcycle. If it weren't for the drivers actions, she probably would've been killed. POS father runs out just to start a fight and see if him and his thug a$$ cousin can beat the man to death and claim that they were so outraged they lost control of themselves. You know that's what they were thinking.... Turns out, they picked the wrong guy. That's one less negroid to have to worry about. He got what he deserved. Period.

If only justice always moved so swift.

I would say sorry if I hurt anyone's feeling by posting this, but I'd be lying.

If it went down as described in the article the cop has nothing to worry about. The only shame is that in Illinois you have to be a cop to carry the means to defend yourself from thugs.

Here's a different take on the same story. Interesting.

Cop Shoots Man After Running Down Daughter

the idiot sperm donor beat a man who just wrecked his motorcycle trying to avoid hitting the girl. The cop already had a broken leg and dislocated shoulder. I guess the idiot thought he was being a father by beating the man that hurt his little girl. He would have been a better father by insuring his child didn't run into traffic. Now he is worm dirt. Probably best thing that happened to the little girl.

OMG abc makes the accident seem like the cops fault......and the family claims he didn't identify himself as a police officer, what does it matter. Anyone being beat should have the right to defend himself.

Quoting from the first story
Middleton's sister, Tina Middleton, said her brother lived in Elgin with the mother of his daughter and was visiting relatives in Maywood, where he grew up. "He was a good person," she said. "I know for sure he wasn't out to harm the man. My brother would never harm anybody. I could understand him [the officer] being upset, but two wrongs don't make a right."
So, as I read it, the guy was beating the hell out of the officer...but "He wasn't out to harm the man". Seems like a pretty clear-cut case of self defense on the part of the officer.

The headline says it all from ABC's "reporting" point of view : "Cop Shoots Man After Running Down Daughter"

Two points.

I havent seen any reports about the speed at which the motorcycle was travelling or what the posted speed limit was at the location. No, the kid shouldnt have been in the street but if kids are that close to the street routinely in that area one would expect a low speed limit.

If someone ran over your kid with a motorcycle, wouldnt you attempt to kick their ass?

I am not trying to exonorate or blame either party, but there are a lot of factors in this that any media outlet wont bother with. Every version of this story presented is incomplete in one way or another.

Any way you look at it, its just sad.

According to the report, the girl was walking to a restaurant with a relative, and the girl darted out in traffic.

Just speculating, but I know that I've lived in a similar area where my apartment was across 45mph zoned, 4 lane highway from a restaurant. I saw adults with young children and infants ignore the "don't walk" signs all the time. Half the time, they wouldn't even bother to cross in the crosswalks.

Sounded like self defense to me,,

To avoid striking the girl, the officer purposely ditched his motorcycle, putting it down on its side on the pavement, according to a statement from Maywood village spokesman Larry Shapiro.
Sounds to me that the officer in question intentionally gave up control of his bike and caused the accident. There is NEVER any reason to purposefully ditch a motorcycle; typically those that say they did it intentionally are just covering for the fact that they did something stupid and lost control. A motorcycle on its side can not be steered and will always be out stopped by the motorcycle which stayed on two wheels.

Two guys beating up the officer, after he identified himself as a cop (should have been clue #1 that he might be carrying). Definitely sounds like self defense. It's crappy that family lost the father and possibly the daughter from one person, but this isnt a story to be angry at the cops, the guy was clearly defending himself.

@ gunderwoods' post; Yes. Having had a bike slow radically faster than myself (went over the handlebars) I know that the former rider will stop faster than the bike.

Cop with broken ankle and dislocated shoulder being beaten by two able bodied men= clear case of self defense.
The cop just better hope that Obama doesn't have an imaginary son who looks like Middleton.

My concern would be for my daughter, not to beat up the police. I would honestly be quite fearful that I would be charged with child abuse as the simplest of mishaps can result in that. So attacking a person would be the very last of my thoughts.

mamabearCali's post is the difference in mentality of a "parent" and the mentality of a "baby daddy".
