step by step instructions and some very helpful hints are posted on both of those sites (ar15.com, youtube). Everything you could want to know and some heated discussions over the most minute aspects of the build are available. The razor blade trick when installing the pivot pin detent is worth whatever you value 2 hours of your time to be.

Brownells has an excellent series of videos that I recommend:
http://www.ar15builder.com/ Note Instructional Video button is at the bottom of the page.
I've used Palmetto State Armory, Midway and Brownells as parts sources and very satisfied with them.

Everything listed above.
At the minimum, buy a set of roll pin punches, roll pin starting punches, and for the upper you need a receiver block for a vice and good barrel nut wrench. Oh, and a AR-15 amorors wrench.
Obviously a hammer, allen wrenches, screwdrivers, safety glasses, and a torque wrench is nice for the barrel nut wrench.
Everything else just makes the job easier, but not required.

Why, Drill Sgt, WHYYYYYY? LOL
