7 dead after a shooter attacked a Sikh Temple in Milwaukee. An officer was shot multiple times but managed to kill the suspect and is expected to survive. A few others are critical.

Speculation is the shooter was a white male in his 30s wearing a sleeveless shirt. Reading around on some other forums many believe he thought he was shooting up a Mosque. Too early to tell.

Regardless, the loss of life is unfortunate. Speedy recovery to the officer.

And of course, expect the antis to use this to their advantage as best they can.

Watching it now and of course it is brought up continually that the shooter was caucasian and he targeted the turbaned holy men exclusively...Nothing like a little bias and inflammatory rhetoric to bias a story..

Sigh. Yup, going to be used against us.

Idiots abound. Sikhism is not Islam. Maybe if we taught more about religions from a purely analytical view in the USA, there'd be less of this idiocy.

My condolences to the families that got caught up because of this guy. Sadly as it seems as soon as one large shooting happens in the U.S. it doesn't quickly go away in the news and it spawns more crazies to try to "beat" or "follow-up" on what the previous nut-case did.

Agreed on TEACHING the ANALYTICAL differences in religion.

Does anyone know if Wisconsin has a similar clause preventing CC in places of worship (unless provided with sufficient reason) like we have here in VA? Just curious.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was another gun-free zone.

Just read the Wikipedia article on Sikhism. Interesting. A monotheistic religion (whose God is omniscient, omnipotent and without form) that's not too far off of Christianity - except no Messiah - which means it is also close to Judaism, except no eating of ritualistically-killed meat (which means the Muslims are also doing it wrong) - and no heaven or hell - just oneness with God. Apparently the Sikhs have a history of war with the Muslims that goes back at least to the 15th century. They also have a history of strife and tensions with both India and Pakistan because those countries incorporated the Punjab into them at various times.

So there are a lot of candidates for who the shooter could be connected with - assuming he's not just a crazy nutjob, of course. Be interesting to see what the back-story is; IF it ever gets out past the pro-gun-control propaganda, of course.

Looks like he's a white supremacist, so anyone non-white would be fair game for him. Of course the media is trying to smear the right by calling him "far-right" as opposed to lunatic white supremacist bastard.

And the rabid left-wing is already blaming Michelle Bachmann and other conservatives for it:

I wonder how many would have been killed if there hadn't been another armed person close-by. In this case, it happened to be a cop, but just goes to show that anyone armed near a situation like this provides the possibility of stopping the assailant from doing more damage.

I'm sure the gun grabbers would be quick to point out that a cop's gun is a "good gun", from which only good things come; but a private citizen carrying bears a "bad gun", which will always cause terrible things to happen.- - - - Or some similarly odiferous load of bovine excrement.

It seems that they complain about those guns, too, anytime they come out of their holsters; justified or not.

The shooters dead, unless he left some writings his motives will be unknown.

These very rare white on non-white crimes get maximum attention. When Colin Ferguson shot up that train he only aimed for white people, but that angle was never mentioned, it was just "evil guns". The racial angle here will be exploited to no end.

I read in the paper this morning he was "demoted and discharged" from the army. That phrase struck me as curious. Is "demoted and discharged" a less-than-honorable discharge that should have made his possession of a firearm illegal?

DorminWS - it caught my eye as well, but the disqualification is only if it's a dishonorable. He might have gotten a General, an Other than Honorable, or a Bad Conduct.

I heard he had achieved the rank of Sergeant but was a lower rank when he was discharged and I believe his discharge was a General Discharge.
