Top Obama campaign officials told Fox News in interviews that the lawsuit in no way tries to restrict the voting rights of military members. All they are trying to do is even the playing field for all voters in Ohio by allowing early voting up until Monday for everyone, including members of the military, because they believe a two-tiered, early-voting process is unfair.
Even if that were the case, to do it during a presidential voting year looks like a dick move.

Nah, Obama just wants an ace up his sleeve. Whoever wins Ohio wins the presidency.

THis man and his crap need to go.... He has brought shame to the office , the country, and to the people of this Republic...The very fact that a POS like him ever got elected is indication enough that WE need to get moving and fix this mess or forever wear the scars of this jackasses abusive administration.

That's funny because people said the same thing in 2004 after we got ourselves into two wars, the Patriot Act passed, we started waterboarding people, and conducted wiretaps without warrents and we ended up with four more years of the same. I wonder if that will happen again....

let me get this right....the Dims want people with no ID (illegal aliens) to be able to vote, but they thinkn the people who are sworn to defend our constitution from all enemies foriegn and domestic shouldn't be able to vote.

You're half right. The Dims do want people with no ID to be able to vote. However, they are not doing anything negative in a military person's right to vote. They are not stripping the military's right to vote. They are not giving the military less time to vote. In Ohio, up until last year ALL Ohioians had up until Monday to cast their early ballot. Last year the Republicant controlled state legislature changed it so that only military members have until Monday to cast their early ballot while everyone else only has until Friday to cast their early ballot. The lawsuit wants ALL Ohioians both military and civilian to be able to cast their early ballot up until Monday.

Still sounds suspicious to me. Changing rules mid-game? Snopes is a bunch of libtards. That's what absentee ballots are for. The military doesn't always have the option of an absentee ballot. But hey, what do I know?

Yeah I know it's suspecious because it's Obama. If it was Romney fighting for the people of Ohio to make sure everyone has those few extra days to cast their vote everyone would be like "Oh thank you Romney for fighting for our rights and equality". I don't blame anyone for that, it's how they've been conditioned over the years.
And no rules are changing mid-game. It's the first week of August. This doesn't effect anything until the first week of November. You know how long your tax preparers have to wait because the tax laws haven't been finalized each year? That's changing the rules mid-game. Like I said in my original post it's a dick move to do this in a presidential voting year, but the rule just took effect last year.
This is just another distraction from the issues and the Fox News viewers are falling for it hook line and sinker. The right is just as good at creating distractions as the left is. I've already seen my Facebook news feed blow up with people posting pictures along the lines of "Obama's taking away the voting rights of our military." Hilarious. During election years the rule tends to be "say whatever you have to so your base gets riled up enough to come out and vote".
I'm not sure what Snopes has anything to do with this, but if you're into random jabs at people and organizations that's cool.

The way I see it, the military folks need extra time to vote to accomondate tyheir schedules, which their military duties make uncompromising. The Obama administration wants to use that to load in extra time for non-military people, because they see that as adventageous to the Obama candidacy. What's wrong with the general public voting on election day? early voting locks in votes before all the information is in. I guess you want early voting if you're on your way down the crapper, huh? What's next? you can vote any time before the next election and change your vote as many times as you want? THAT would be an election fraud engineers dream, wouldn't it? After all, why stop halfway?

I'm all for military people having as much time as we can possibly give them since they have crazy schedules, but if the window is already open up until the day before, why not let anyone cast their ballot early? Because if everyone can cast their ballot up until Monday that looks like you're not catering to the needs of the military and their crazy schedules.
dorminWS wrote:What's wrong with the general public voting on election day?
What's wrong is that life gets in the way. Because of the nature of my business my appointments are only lined up a few days in advance. I'll know on Saturday or Sunday whether I'll be slammed on Tuesday. Tuesday is election day so Murphy's Law says I'm going to be slammed (unless I cast my ballot early then I'll be as dead as a doornail). Would be nice to drop my ballot off on Monday, but since I'm not military I can't. A last minute dentist appointment, your boss springs a business trip on you, you have to visit a sick family member.
"I just want to cast my ballot."
"I'm sorry sir, early voting today is only for members of the military."
"But you have to sit here anyway in case someone from the military shows up to cast their ballot. You're already here whether people from the military show up or not. Why can't I cast my ballot?"
Sounds logical to me.
dorminWS wrote:early voting locks in votes before all the information is in.
We're talking about the ability to cast a ballot on Monday November 5. How much more information is the average Ohioian going to get so they can make an informed decision between Monday November 5 and Tuesday November 6? When was the last time the last 24 hours made the difference in an election?

How do you go from wanting the ability to cast a ballot 72 hours before an election (where people will already see if you're in the crapper or not) to casting a ballot months in advance and being able to change your vote? What a fallacy. You're normally on your game dormin, so I'll attribute this to not having your morning coffee. Please, have a cup on me and join us back in the land of logic.

Look at it the other way: Voting on election day (with the exception of the military and those who qualify for an absentee ballot) has been good enough for a long, long time. Why now, after all this time, is it suddenly not good enough? Votes cast when there are no poll watchers (indeed, like absentee ballots, which have always been a locus of election fraud) are susceptible to fraud and manipulation.
And I view the obligation to get up off your ass and go to the trouble to vote on election day (or have the foresight and responsibility to secure a valid absentee ballot and cast it properly) as an obligation of citizenship. If that's too much trouble for them to go to, then they don't deserve to vote.

So if I'm a member of the military and I cast my ballot on Monday, does it go into some secure box that has no way of being tampered with? Wouldn't a civilian casting their ballot on Monday have their vote go into the same box? I'm not sure what makes a ballot cast by a military member any more or less possible of being tampered with. Everyone loves talking about voter fraud, but the confirmed instances are so rare I don't even know why it's such a big topic.
Mishaps happen on election day which caused long lines and equipment malfunctions causing huge delays which is why Ohio enacted an early voting policy in 2004 in the first place. Voting early is an attractive option for some people since life is more rushed than it was in the 1950. It's a go, go, go world. The population has doubled since the 1950s so standing in line longer doesn't mix well with the go, go, go world.

Are you kidding me? You've negated all of the benefits of casting an early ballot and your entire argument is "voting on election day has worked so far, why change it" and "if you can't show up on Tuesday you're lazy or unprepared". Wow, you're on a roll today. I can understand your reluctance to leave your Leave it to Beaver times, but the rest of the world has moved on.

No, YOU'VE negated these benefits in YOUR mind. Yes, as you seem to concede, any vote not cast at the polls is more susceptible to fraud. The Military vote is a necessary exception. We seem to agree on that. Absentee ballots are another necessary exception that has been used for a long time to deal with folks who can't be at their polling place. If localities are not making adequate provisions to accomodate voters in a reasonable time, the Obama crowd need to bring a lawsuit to fix THAT; not make it easier to commit fraud. But what the hell........ they're already doing all they can to let undocumented aliens vote, so they might as well throw a bunch of potential shills into the military vote IN A CRUCIAL SWING STATE. They are blatantly trying to change the rules to steal an election if necessary. The same damn @ssholes who let two thugs with clubs stand at the polls LAST election and get away scott free with it.
Ah Hell. We disagree. Leave it at that. At least the Beaver didn't have to worry about whether his Boy Scout tentmate would grab his @ss. Not all changes are good, you know.
