Good for her and I would be a proud father as well. While I'm not Jewish (gave it up for Lent.), for her to serve there, shows pride and a love for her country.

I've had a couple Profs and students leave my old school to serve. God bless them all and Israel.

Biblically speaking, supporting Israel is the right thing to do. Joining there Army is one way to go about it, I suppose.

Interesting choice, jewish or something? There are certainly worse choices.

Is she an Israeli citizen? If so, might have been her time.

Mandatory service is two years. If she's going for three that means she volunteered.

Or she is trying to get citizenship..... In which case 3 is mandatory... IIRC. Of course she has to "want" to do it. So in retrospect, she'd have to volunteer.

it will be some good training from what I hear. I would congratulate him and his daughter on her decision. Hopefully she makes it through with no troubles.

Seems to me that serving in the Israeli Army entails a very high probability of going into (indeed, of being constantly in) harm's way. To serve therefore demonstrates a very real committment. It would certainly be in order to congratulate for that.

Ehn. I worked with Israelis, and spent some time over there. Most of them are not huge fans of the evangelical Christian American movement pushing people into a "Israel First" mentality. If you want to serve, I say serve in the US military. Jew, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, atheist, Deist, Hindu, just as long as you're an American.

I would support my child/children if they wanted to serve in the Israeli Military. We're a Christian family and believe in supporting Israel. That said, I would not get a good night's sleep until they returned safely.

You don't have to be an American to be in the US military.

With all due respect, I was raised Christian and have a firm grasp of the Bible. I am aware of the belief that Christians must protect Israel. From a purely secular view, I subscribe to the idea of protecting the modern state of Israel.

That said, there is a certain section of the evangelical Christians and Jews that stir up trouble over there. Talk to some Israelis - Arab and Jew alike - that have had to step into a fight between evangelicals and Palestinians stirred up because one side or the other starting shooting. Talk to Israeli soldiers as they bunker down when both sides start shooting at them.

Don't believe all the hype about Israel. Again, I believe we need to side with our ally, but don't forget Israel puts itself first. There's a reason they are one of the leading nations with respect to spying on the USA.

Before you dismiss my opinion as uneducated next time, practice James 1:19.

With respect, due or not, I was offering my opinion and issued no attack on your biblical knowlege. I did not state that your opinion was "uneducated". Mine has no more weight than yours. But mine is more often attacked in all forums.... I am unashamedly "Evangelical Christian" and feel no need to be meligned or abused for it though I have been warned that will happen.

I would expect any soverign nation to "put itself first" that is a responsability not a point of criticism. I wish our President did that!

My apologies, then, ratherfish. I read a tone in your post that was not present. My fervent response is due to previous attacks attack on my beliefs by other evangelical, Protestant Christians.

I'd hardly qualify for being politically correct. I have some beliefs that would probably upset the majority here, but they are mine, formulated by years of world experience, and not dictated to me by the Hollywood and "intellectual elite".

I agree on the military service. Heck, I'd agree with some kids doing conscientious objector service. Just something to shape up and become adults.

To continue the analogy, my concern is that a lot of folks hold the state of Israel with some sort of religious fervency that borders on idolatry. It's a nation with its own problems and cloaks and daggers. I would offer that Americans should not serve until the Israeli government mans up and forces all of its citizens to serve in some manner, and quits allowing some to skirt the mandatory service for reasons of religion and attending the yeshiva.

That all said, if you want to serve, better Israel than being a human shield for radical Islamists and enemies of America.

I had a chance to spend a little time with some Israeli military folks when I was there a number of years ago, both men and women. A very eductated group both tactically and professionally. They were very proud of their service and with good reason in my book. It was kinda fun to be able to sit and discuss weapons and such with some very lovely ladies. I'm not jewish myself but if the young lady feels it is her calling to go back and serve, Then I for one applaud her.
