ugh..stupid phone. My question is qhen building, what part or point do you have to register with the ATF

You don't have to register a standard built AR.

The lower receiver is the part with a serial number.
There is no registration per say, however when you purchase a firearm, the serial number is recorded on your federal form, and kept by the FFL for a period of 20 years.
All other items can be ordered online and shipped directly to your home.
Have fun building it, it is a lot of fun and feels good.
If you are near berryville i happen to have a stripped lower available. $95 after transfer and taxes. I am an FFL by the way
