George Allen sells us out before he's even elected

But apparently he's the only Republican who's "electable". He's always been unfriendly towards us, why should we vote for him? Not even Kaine disrespects us enough to come out and say it now - he'd push it in office but he's afraid enough of us not to come out and say it. Allen doesn't fear us, he doesn't respect us, he doesn't deserve our votes.
From his debate with Kaine this past weekend: background checks on all firearms transfers, something he's pushed in the past and will in the future if elected:
ALLEN: When I was a member of the General Assembly, at Mr. Jefferson's seat, and it was my amendment that said that when anybody is buying a firearm that there will be -- regardless of the firearm that there will be an instant criminal records check. And I do believe think those criminal records checks, including mental disorders or drug abuse are indicated in any firearm purchases.

You can bet that Kaine would fix it so you wouldn't have to get a background check to buy a gun; because if he had his way you wouldn't be allowed to buy a gun at all.
I'm afraid this is another clear case of the lesser of two evils. It makes no sense to cut off your nose to spite your face by voting for Kaine to punish Allen.

Remember what our part-time Governor Kaine signed into law?
If you are Va Tech student your traffic violations are minimal. If your a local that $300 fine will be $3000.
It had to be challenged in court before being removed.

If Allen wins at all, it will be by a small margin. He's going to need every vote he gets and like it or not, he will be better for guns than Kaine. It's a shame this is the choice we have...

Would you prefer mayonnaise or mustard on your $h!t sandwich???
Sounds like he is using the Clinton triangulation theory. he figures he will have the conservative vote by being the Anti Obama candidate, now he is trying to sound like he is for some form of gun control to pick up some liberal support too. He probably figures that any form of gun control won't see the light of day in either a Republican or Democratic led senate, so he won't be held to anything he has said about guns. Sounds like a true politician doesn't he???

Neither. I refuse to eat such a sandwich just because a bunch of republicans have their heads up their you know what and vote only for the lesser of two evils because he's "electable." Please note, your lesser of two evils candidate isn't electable because I won't be voting for him. Go ahead and blame me for your stupidity of nominating George in the first place, but YOU created this choice, not I.

You know, I understand what you're saying, and am not unsympathetic to it. I even like the idea that one might punish the republicans for being stupid when nominating their candidate. But it's the next logical step that bothers me: Because if you do that, it is unavoidable that you REWARD the democrats for being EVEN MORE STUPID. So it seems to me that revenge, whether it's served cold on a sandwich or hot with gravy, will result in you eating more sh!t than if you'd voted for the lesser of the evils.
Just my opinion - I don't expect to change your mind, my friend.

They're running for Senate no? And as such would have little to no effect on state policy, so since you're all generally intent on undoing Obamacare, thats not going to happen without a Republican controlled Senate even if the Romneybot 3000 wins, you may as well back him.
I also don't forsee any anti-gun action on a federal level anyway, even if a few Republicans are wishy-washy on the issue.

I think a lot of us just want OL George to know if he gets our support ,he better return the favor.. Even if there is little activity in Congress involving guns we need to keep him aware that we won;t take him being an anti gun anything..Espacially that Gun SHow loophoem Bullshit or any other private sale bills that would restrict gun activitie by private citizens/

Revenge and principles are two very different things.

The reality is that Obamacare will never be undone. Perhaps in name only, but it will then be replaced with something just as bad, but most won't care because a republican did it.

This. I doubt it'll even be undone in name only (there's that whole "repeal and replace" business, of course - it won't be repealed, but what are they wanting to replace it with? Why do they even want to replace it at all?), so it'll be another spear in the side of the economy until that old bull finally expires.
As for gun control, someone in the White House thinks it's got legs, since Obama's finally come out and called for a new AWB and closing the ol' gun show loophole. Three and a half years dodging the topic, only to come out in favor of a discredited policy now? That's some monumental stupidity there, or else they think they can make something (anything, maybe) happen.

I have an idea. How about we e-mail the Allen Campaign, and bluntly say "I am on the fence about you now because of this statement... You were weak on guns as a Governor, and a Senator, and I have problems with your stance."
(shrugs) Could it hurt having 3000+ folks put him on notice?

Probably do him some good, and couldn't hurt him to be reminded that in this deadly-close election he has 3,000 voters wondering whether he deserves their vote bnecause of his weakness on guns. But on the other hand, there's a good chance you won't move him. While Ole George might not be the brightest bulb in the fixture (hardly a debilitating handicap in our present Senate, if you think about it), he's smart enough to know that if you don't like HIS stance on guns, you HATE Kaine's. As someone's already pointed out, he has to capture independents and moderates to win.

Well, maybe? Some of the provisions have proven popular enough a few of the big carriers said they were keeping them, but thats their own initiative.
Perhaps its the heat, but I've been doing a bit of research on college economics and am beginning to wonder if the entire idea of medical insurance (be it government or private) is the root cause for inflation defying price increases....like college if you can get someone else to pay it , well, who gives a damn what it costs?
Something tells me if we all had to cough up cash for our own CT scans they wouldn't cost between $300 and $2,000, just like no sane person would spend $300 per credit hour to take a supposedly "elective" (yet is mandatory) course in college.
I personally know only one doctor who takes no insurance (gov or commercial), just $50.00 per visit cash or credit card, he makes less money but says he is alot happier.
Mayhaps your "market" faith has more merit than I give it?
Of course then you'd have to disentangle the special interests, which I guess includes me, so...let the current fubar'd system stand! I got bills!
