I have a random rant...what's your opinion?

Both my sons, age 10 and 6 play sports. I purchased a 10x10 ft tent (nice one) to transport to practices and games to offer protection from the sun and rain and to help keep us cool during the HOT football practices. Each night I transport this 30 pd thing from my car to the field where the practice is held. I set it up for the express use of my family and close friends who's sons are my sons friends. EVERY single time I do this, as soon a s my tent goes up, someone (non-aquaintenence) parks their chair in the shady spot that I just created. What would ya'll do if confronted by my situation because last night I asked my wife to help me move it, and she said" Well if we move it, the people behind us won't have any shade." And she wonders why I stood there dumbfounded at her answer...

I'd drop the tent and move it. Or take an umbrella too and drop the tent then put up the umbrella so I could have shade.

yopu should look at the person that you don't know and tell them that you got your tent/canopy at (walmart, target, cabellas, gander mtn, etc...) and that they should get one too, as you don't think that your going to have enough room to let them stay under the canopy with you...gotta have enough room for the dogs to stretch out...
or just tell them that "i put this up for my family to stay cool...can i ask you to move out,....please'
people are funny

Just a though, maybe if you OC they'll get nervous and leave. You know, nobody wants to be near the crazy man carrying the gun.

Is this on school property?

Yes, this is on school grounds. I once had my son's Garand in my trunk and someone saw it while pulling out my tent and swear to God, 4 Police cruisers were on there way to Toano Middle School. Luckily one of the coaches ( a cop) told the sergeant on duty ( a good friend of mine whos son plays with mine, that it was just "Brian". he sent 2 cruisers back, but 2 arrived to question me. The coach, talked to the officers and then they asked me some questions. namely, what type of gun, was it mine, etc. They NEVER saw it, got no serial number, no nothing. All ok huh? nope. 10pm I get a call from James City County Police and the officer said we should have not let you go. ?????? He said it was a class felony. And said that the paperwork was sitting on the desk of the comonwealth atty.

No guns on school grounds just creates victim zones. Libs will never learn.

Why do the JBTs always insist on lying to the public?
ยง 18.2-308.1
[snip] (vi) a person who possesses an unloaded firearm that is in a closed container, or a knife having a metal blade, in or upon a motor vehicle, or an unloaded shotgun or rifle in a firearms rack in or upon a motor vehicle;
Unless you had it loaded, having it packed in a trunk could be considered a "closed container".
Generally an unloaded long gun in a trunk is legally the same as an unloaded long gun in the trunk. Since no one ever physically witnessed the weapon (someone saw what they THOUGHT looked like a gun) no charges could be brought as it could not be proven that you didn't have it properly stowed.
For future purposes I would keep it in a carry case, if even soft-side.

Yeah, he said class 6 felony and that it was punishable by 1 yr in jail, I believe. What sucked is that everybody knows me and I wouldn't hurt a fly (well, maybe a paper target). But the person who saw it conviently called the police and left the scene after calling the dispatch and saying there was a "very large, bearded, agressive man with an assault rifle" at the school. I'm now the butt of all jokes and when hunters fire their guns in the distance, everyone looks at me. Maybe I need to bring my gun AND my tent.

Dont know what to say about gun biz, but for the folks sitting in the shade of your tent I would kindly tell them "Excuse me, but me and my family are going to sit there. Will you please move?"
Now that they see you as a "very large, bearded, agressive man with an assault rifle" they'll probably leave in a big hurry.

Well, assuming you plan to use that shade (rather than sit in the tent - or is this more like a tarp or fly?), I'd tell them that and politely ask them to move. Certainly if I wanted to move it I would, regardless of who's next to it.

When we were at the Tea Party, I would ask If I could borrow their shade for a bit. It was never a problem and I didn't stay real long at any of the places except one and that was at a band tent to the right of the stage and I bought their CD and chatted with them as I used to be a gigging drummer in a few Blues/Funk/Rock bands. Being in a wheelchair helps too... At the VCDL tent, I helped a little when it was real busy.
