New Concealed Carry Permit...What is the Answer

I just received my CHP...first time. Can someone please tell me exactly what needs to be done if I am carrying concealed and I am the subject of a traffic stop. What is the protocol. I have looked everywhere for the rules in Virginia but have come up empty handed and the last thing I want to do is loose the permit because I was ignorant of the procedures. Also...I understand that my permit may be tied to vehicle registration. If I am not carrying do I have any duty to inform local or state police that I have a CHP or just when I am carrying.

There is no requirement to notify the law enforcement in the state of Virginia. Whether you do or not is purely your preface.

ianal, but I agree. If the permit is demanded, however, I believe you must also present it with ID. You only need a permit if you are actually carrying concealed. Iirc, there's something about only being fined if you are not carrying a permit after 1 July 2012 rather than being in serious trouble.

I'm new to CHP also. You don't need to show your permit when stopped.
But.. I was taut by my CHP instructor to avoid complication/misunderstandings. Put your hands on the wheel and have your License and CHP ready.. and never never mention gun... use firearm, pistol etc...
Some good info here

According to my brother in law in Newport News, on the rare occasions that he's been pulled over, the officer approaches the vehicle and, instead of asking for his license and registration, they ask him if he is carrying today. He then states that he is, and hands over his license and registration. As far as I know, he has never been asked to produce the permit; they knew he had it when they ran his tags, and his drivers license verified his identity. Also, he's never been asked to produce his gun, either.
In other words, it doesn't seem like something worth stressing over.
I should probably point out that I am not a lawyer, your mileage may vary, warranty void upon use, etc.

Thanks for the replies. Are there any LEO's that have a response? What would you want a CHP to do if you do a traffic stop.
