Yesterday at the IWLA

Post by BluemontGlock »

Went yesterday to IWLA in Loudoun...

was shooting my .40 & .45...it was a little humid but the outdoor covered range was actually not bad at all... and a very nice gent by thename of John showed up with a few new items he got at the gun show...

he had two pocket pistols...the ruger LCS and the AMT .380...

the LCS was too thin and to light...for me..., i had a hard time holding it and it was so light that i can see forgeting i had it in my pocket...and although i know that is the idea, it couldn't get comformtable with it... & i couldn't hit the dirt behind the target, let alone anything on the paper, and this was after just after shooting worm like patterns with my pistols...the AMT was heavily and felt much more "substantial" in my hand...still, it was SMALL...first time i really held and fired a pistol that i didn;t have a full 4 finger grip on...i didn't like it, the other majotr obstcle for me was the sights on both were difficult to view and align...control, accuracy, and confidence were lacking... it was a GREAT lesson...and i must say, the 380 had some bark for a little round....

and then he pulled out his great find... a 9mm XDm..brand new...
19 round clips...came with a great hard case and three different backstraps, double clip holder, speed loader, etc... for $575 !!
maybe its me , but that just sounds cheap for a brand new pistol these days...

in a word...WOW... it is a full size frame, which was a welcome change from the mini's i had just been firinig...but what great sights...!!! he was kind enough to let me fire his new piece and was that SWEET... i had no problem putting 19 holes all over each other the first time i picked up the pistol...i do not have a 9mm... I didn't think it was a powerful enough round, but being able to hit your target over and over because of excellent pistol engineering has alot of merit as well... and i knopw that they make thes in .40 and .45 and I believe it is even the exact same frame... WOW... i think i am gonna have to get me one of those...
impressive. just impressive.

Drove home with a HUGE grin...when was the last time you had a great monday???
Be particular, and be vigilant, as the enemy will only attack on two occasions:
When you're ready or when you're not ready.

Also never forget, that everyone who shows up, is not necessarily there to help.

Try contacting this guy. I got an XDm 9mm for $589 from him. He's located off rt301 just south of F'burg. If he doesnt have what you're looking for, he'll get it.

Springfield has put out a great line of weapons with the XD series. I guess it's the ergonomics (They come to hand very naturally, the angles are damned-near perfect) and they work like nobody's business. Throw in the safety factors and the quick breakdown, and you have a great firearm.
As for the AMT, I've had people lean around the partition and ask me what the Hell I was shooting because of the report from the 2" barrel. It's loud, and it's not a pleasant gun to shoot, but once you figure out that there are no sights (You're basically looking down a piece of celery using a sesame seed for a front tit) and overcome the fear of pain, it's a tack-driver.
I play golf, so I can write stuff like that.
