I'm looking into getting my CHP very soon, but my only issue is that there are to many different types of holsters I'll be carrying a Glock 19 on my 4 or 5. I'm mostly looking at Galco holsters at the moment, I was wondering which had a better feel to it. Also, if you have any other preference please let me know which one and why. Thanks everyone.

have you considered some of the Kydex molded ones? they tend to pretty good

Buy a nice over the counter holster at first, cause soon you'll see another, then another, then one that's IWB and then come the custom holsters, OWB and IWB and before long you'll be like most of us, you'll have your box of shame too.....and finally settle on a holster that works. I had two boxes of shame holsters...finally gave one away when I got rid of all my .380's. The shame comes when you look at all those holsters you've bought and say to yourself, " shame I spent all that money".

I would say to buy a quality holster right off the bat. Why buy something subpar when you know already you will want something better later.

I went through maybe 3 holsters for my XD before just buying a custom fit minotaur IWB from comptac. The fit is great and you cant even tell it's there. I hear the crossbreed holsters are good too.

Thanks vaeevictiss , thats exactly what I needed. Reviews are great for both of those and yes I would rather go with a great holster than waste so much money on bad ones.

That is one of the problems with holster shopping. We discuss holsters in our Intro to Concealed Carry class and bring in examples to show students because most people just don't know what to buy. The key is, you have to look for reviews before buying. Otherwise, you will end up with a box of holsters that you spent good money on and will never use.

I have an Alessi IWB for the Commander / Officers, which also happens to fit my Taurus 945, and a DeSantis IWB that they now call their Intruder. It's basically the same as the Cross Breed Super tuk. Now I managed to find both from a single seller slightly used, and with the full sized 1911 the gun disappears with the DeSantis, and is very well supported, due to the distribution of weight. Knowing this the Crossbreed, or any of the other look a likes should fit and carry the same. I know there is one company who sells the same design, but has the option to change the Kydex holder piece for different guns. So if that holster work well for you, you only need an extra holder or two for any additional guns you may wish to carry in the future.

I do seem to be very partial to my Alessi, as it just happened to be one he made before he left us, and since it just happens to fit a gun many don't make a holster for, even better. I would say you can't go wrong with either of those, but check the big on-line sellers like Midway and such, as they way at times have something in stock that you would have to wait for if ordering direct. Of course if the wait is not an issue, deal direct, and you can ask for any options, or extras you would like.

I was in the same boat, and shelled out a lot of cash trying to find the "right" holster. I got a Crossbreed Super Tuk and that ended the search for me! Now everything that I own, with the exception of my single action revolvers, has either a Super Tuk or Mini Tuk for it. You may not like them, but I sure do.

Get a mouse gun with a belt clip! No holster necessary...

If you have sewing talent, you could always go to Tandy Leather, and make your own... they have the materials, and hardware.

Go to Walmart and buy a cordura one. Reversible for IWB or OWB. Thumb strap for retention. Dirt cheap.

Then think about upgrading later once you get a better idea of how you carry and what you need.

Comp-Tac Minotaur MTAC. I carry a *full size 1911* in this holster and it is the most comfortable holster I've ever worn. Inside the waistband and fully adjustable for tension, ride depth, and cant, it sports a kydex body and leather backing that is ridiculously comfortable. Put a T-shirt over it and it disappears from sight.

The only holster you ever need.
