I thought I'd check with you guys here, since your a knowledgeable and friendly bunch.
So I got my new Hi Power (well new to me, its a 1992), great.. it was working well but it started have some problems with the hammer not staying cocked.

I notice this while practicing with the controls of the pistol
mag is finished slide is held open, put in a a fresh mag and hit the slide release/lock the slide goes forward and the hammer follows it into the half cocked position.

Now i don't normally load the pistol this way. I do the overhand style.
But sometimes I do it to a bit too hard, ala "slingshot". And again the slide goes forward and the hammer follows it into the half cocked position.

Then today on the range I was doing some rapid fire drills, and it started again,
after 2-3 quick rounds the hammer would fall into the half cock position. I would have to manually reach up and cock the hammer for keep firing. And after a few more rounds it happens again.. garrrr

I didn't have any problems with the ammo firing or ejecting etc...
I have 2 original mags and 2 new Mec-Gar ones.. no problems with them, issues happen with all the mags.
The pistol is clean and lubed. I didn't see anything that is broken or bent that could be causing the problems

Anyone here familiar with the Browning Hi-Power? I'm still new with it.
Anyone have clue whats wrong.. or know of a good gunsmith in the Hampton Roads area that's good with Hi-Powers?

I don't know a smith down there, but it sounds like the sear may be rounded off. Get the hammer and sear replaced and you should be good to go.

just and update.. found a local smith and he fixed the issue
its was the sear and hammer face. He even did a bit of a trigger job on it..
and its wasn't expensive.
Took it out to the range the other day to run it through its paces.. worked faultlessly..

For great info on the Browning and FN HP pistols. Google Steve Camp probably the most knowledgeable person on this pistol.
