I'd been promised the first Ruger SR1911 my FFL guy got since these things came out. I'd about given up. Pretty nice 1911 for the price, but I'm not crazy about the grips. They need real wood, IMO.
Also picked up the AT Titan Stainless while I was there. Don't have many "shorties".
Haven't shot either yet, of course. Maybe Saturday or Sunday if it doesn't rain.

Nice Ruger! Not a fan of the looks on the SB 1911s, but I'd imagine they're more for practical purposes.

I agree about the looks on the SB. I bought it because:
(1) As you observed, there's a practical reason for a SB 1911.
(2) At $672, it is a good carry gun because you can afford to have it seized if you ever have to use it.
(3) What with the nickel finish and all, it was halfway pleasing to look at in a plug-ugly sort of way.
(4) I didn't have one of them yet. I sort of accumulate 1911s. I wouldn't say I'm a collector, but I probably would be if I could afford it.

Still haven't shot it. If I have a bad experience with it when I do, it will become another safe queen in my collection. Or maybe somebody will want it more than I do. It ain't the only pistol I own, and every one i own is not a favorite. So either way,m it ain't a big enough deal to get hacked off about, in my book.
But thanks for the heads up. I'll give Mr. Pincus' words due consideration.

Despite your having more 1911s than most gun shops, I would not have posted the video if I thought you were emotionally invested in your guns. And who knows, it may even turn out to be a highly reliable pistol, but I'll side with Pincus and say the odds are pretty heavily against it.
You have the right approach. Give it a try and if it does not do what you want it to, park it or move it on.

I don't hear a lot of people talking trash about the 1911s or sub compact 1911s so somehow this guy knows something everyone else doesn't? Further more he expects me to believe he sat down and crunched the numbers on how many 1911s have or haven't failed in his course?

Ouch. Still, what would cause a compact 1911 to malfunction more often than a full size? Is not the only different the barrel (and of course slide) length? Does the charge just throw them back too hard b/c of the reduced slide weight? (But I would expect that difference to be negligible and easily corrected by a stiffened recoil spring.)

^^ That wouldn't happen in 1912.... So maybe it being 2012 ain't something to brag about.
Secondly: a lot of guns jam when you limp wrist. Not saying that's the cause in this case, but what surprises me is that no one mentioned the guy riding the slide. Really?? Not so sure I woulda put that out in the public domain as such, if my reputation as an instructor depended on it. If he's riding the slide, what else is he doing we *don't* see in the video? Hope Mr. Pincus saw that and corrected the student's bad habit quickly.
Given the fact he said with operator error as well he would probably claim you were slow to disengage the safety of something like that.
I recall reading a reply by Pincus stating that what he means by operator error is trying to fire with the thumb safety on or re-holstering a loaded gun with hammer back and the thumb safety off. These errors are of course not limited to 1911s.

RANGE REPORT:
I finally got around to shooting those two 1911s this past Saturday. Put 50 rounds of PMC 230 grain FMJ through each of them.
The Ruger SR1911 was a real delight. It not only functioned flawlessly with cheap ammunition, but it was easily handled and managed with minimal perceived recoil or muzzle flip, and it is pretty much of a tack driver. Easy to aim, control, and hit a target with. I like the 3-dot sights. They’re easy on the eyes. No checkering on the front strap, and the grip seemed a little long in my hand for some reason, but that didn’t seem to make any difference when I fired it. I did find the slide release just a little hard to reach with my right thumb, but that may have more to do with the stiffness/soreness that comes with the knuckle tending to lock on the middle finger of my right hand and some arthritis in it than the dimensions of the pistol. Functionally, I found it just as good a pistol as some costing 4-5 times as much money. Not a bad looking pistol, either (except, as noted before, the grips are either wood-grained plastic or wood that looks plastic, and it deserves better-looking ones). It might just be the best 1911 for the money that I own. It was worth the wait, and I’m tickled to death with it.
The AT Titan Stainless was also a very pleasant surprise. It was also accurate and well-behaved; particularly for a short-barreled 1911. And 50 rounds of the el cheapo PMC ammo that I get so cheap I’m not ashamed to use it produced no malfunctions, despite a couple of rapid-fire exercises. I seemed a little loud; but heck, it ain't got much of a barrel. I don’t know what kind of short-barreled 1911 Mr. Pincus was talking about, but it would appear he’s full of bullcookies when it comes to this one. Of course, I didn’t pour 1,000 rounds through the thing, but it sure looked good on that 50; and I put enough rounds through it fast enough that it got hot to touch. Chasbo00, if you do decide to take Pincus up on his offer, looks like I've got the pistol for you.
Bottom line: Both new toys are entirely satisfactory. They’ll be to shoot and not just to look at in years to come.

Glad you are happy with them dorminWS. Regarding taking Pincus up on his offer, I suspect you confused me with someone else. I'm afraid I'm in his camp with respect to short barreled 1911s. I'm not nearly so adamant about their unsuitability for carry as he is though. I just strongly prefer 5-inch 1911s and think they are far more reliable. Glad to hear the Ruger is largely to your liking though as I have one on my acquisition short list.
