JFK was an interesting President. The greatest of all time? Hardly. The first ever assassinated? Nope. The only one to ever stare down the Soviet Union? Not even close. The only one to have a harrowing experience in war time?

Did some good things? Yes.
But I am baffled as to why, this particular president, gets a Full Military Wreath Laying on the anniversary of his birth every year.
Lucy, 'splain this to me.

He's popular among a large number of voters maybe?

His generation of voters and legistlators are still in positions to make it happen. Imho, its just another gouging of America. You don't really think the gov pays for the wreaths do you (without tax payers money)?

You don't really think the government pays for anything with something besides taxpayers' money, do you?
As for picking JFK's tomb to lay a wreath on, it occurs to me that he was (or at least he was made into) a liberal martyr, and perhaps liberals, while they held the white house, latched onto an opportunity to keep his memory alive. Then it becomes a tradition that non-liberals observe because conservatives are big on tradition and don't want to appear mean about something that after all does no harm. Besides, the guy was a veteran
Or maybe not. Who knows?

I'm pretty sure that wreath is based solely on his props for banging Marilyn Monroe

This is probably the best explanation, right here.
Of course, ORS made a good point, too, lol.

Depending on how you look at it, he was the last conservative president.

He tried to bring competition to the federal reserve bank by introducing silver certificates.
I personally think that is why he was killed.

By today's standards he probably was a conservative. But by the standards of 1960, he was liberal; and he is in any event a premier member of the pantheon of liberal saints whose name is often invoked to demonstate the sanctity of that cause.

Some thoughts:
1. One of four assassinated Presidents
2. Only one buried in Arlington (location location location).
3. Only one killed in modern times.
4. Only one filmed while killed.
5. Lots of people still alive who remember it.
Like the death of Lincoln, the further away you get from it the less pomp and circumstance there will be.
I have a feeling if Reagan had died in '81 we would be doing the same thing for him.

Another possibility is geography. His gravesite is in a good spot for a ceremony. Its on an a hill in Arlington Cem overlooking the Mall and the Capitol, just a few hundred yds away from the Tomb of the Unknowns (where wreathes are also placed every year.)

Hey, he had affairs with Marilyn Monroe, Angie Dickinson, and all sorts of sex symbols back in their day. You gotta give him credit for something.

Always figured he got the wreath as a President, do they all get that? The fact he is a Navy vet is why maybe?
Then again, as others have suggested...
Perhaps that alone merits it?
I actually thought
Some Like it Hot was actually funny...she helped too.

He was the first real TV president that's why and as someone already said, the people who remember are still in office.
