When i was shooting yesterday, my 1911 jammed. When i took a look, the slide lock had jumped into the takedown notch area and gotten stuck. i ejected the mag, reset the bullet in the mag, and reset the gun. All was well after that, but that was a pretty odd jam.

Anybody seen this before on a 1911? is there an easy fix? i was going to look for burrs on the TDN and remove with a light fole or high-grit emory, but i also wanted to hear 'more experienced' opinions.

Not very experienced but as a 1911 owner I am curious to know about how many rounds you have put through it & also which manufacture you have? Sounds like it would be possible the take down pin has worn just enough to cause an issue. But again I am no expert and only have experience with what I own.

I just saw that your arsenal shows its a Rock Island so you can ignore that question.

I've handled a 1911 or two, and I never saw or heard tell of that particular malfunction.

I know, i've never heard of the issue before either. It's the damnedest thing. I'll try to snap a pic or two the next time i pull the gun apart (which will be soon. it always is )

Are you shooting with both hands on the grip? I've heard of people accidently hitting the slide stop lever with the finger(s) of the supporting hand during recoil, resulting it it moving upwards enough to engage the notch in the slide.

I Shoot southpaw, so the only finger nearby is the trigger finger. I'll try to be more aware of TF position during recoil though.

That could be the cause of your problem, he demonstrates the thumb over thumb with a Glock, since you are left handed, your thumbs are on the other side of the pistol. It could be your thumb applying pressure on the pin on the slide stop, which is also the take-down pin. What might be happening is: You fire the pistol , the slide recoils and as it starts to return forward, the pressure from your thumb pushes it over, so it slides into the take-down notch just enough to act like the slide stop.
