** This idea, this post, and most of the legwork associated with this Shoot and Greet were originated by TacticalMom. I am just reposting the original post with the date change for 25 August.
Hello VGOF
This is a spin off Post from the one I posted asking about interest in a BBQ. Reca as I have said is my partner in crime.
Here are the details:
Date: 8/25/12
Time: 3pm or 1500 (All day, really)
Place: The Cove -
http://www.covecampground.com/CabinsETC.html
980 Cove Road
Gore, Virginia 22637
[
MAP]
There is a general admission for a day activity I assume they take only cash.
General Admission-- Per Person
Friday through Sunday and Holidays
Each Adult- $15.00
Each Child (Ages 2-11)- $7.00
What is it: A BBQ/pot luck
I will have protiens, I am thinking BBQ'd pulled pork, some marinated flank steak, maybe some chicken. If you are a vegetarian, you are more than welcome to grill some veggie burgers you bring, but I am just going to focus the meat.
I will bring some balls and game equipment so that people can play while food is cooking. Dinner at about 5pm, then Range time. =)
***
What we need from you:
Sadly, I currently am not independently wealthy, therefore I cannot feed all of you everything. Hence the pot luck. If you guys could respond and let us know if you are coming, and what you are going to bring with you. So I can plan appropriately.
Sides:
potato salad
macaroni salad
veggies
chips
cookies/desserts
Drinks:
Juice
water
soda
beer?
*** Safety:
The Cove has their own rules, however, safety is our utmost concern.
Due to small children being at the BBQ, we will all have to be on our guard.
Obviously only shoot in the designated areas. It is recommended no children under 7 in the shooting range.
Please pick up after yourself in the range. Not only is it a rule of the cove, but it is considerate of those around you.
Please police yourself if you are going to drink. Do so responsibly.
Cove Rules:
Target Range Rules
Firearms must be legal in the State of Virginia.
Please clean up after yourself. Free trashbags and a trash facility are located in the office.
Tracers and armor-piercing bullets are NOT allowed.
You will need to bring your own targets and stands.
Allingeneral if you can think of anything else we need to add I am all ears.
Whew think that is it.

Looks like it could be a great time out there. Hopefully you will get more people that will commit, and the weather is nice for the days outing. Be safe and have fun.
Charles.

This will be taken place 5 days prior to my 27th B-day. Guess I will have to invite more people now lol. I know I will have at least 4 people with me. Maybe a few more. Lasagna is really what I want to bring but I am still unsure if that is what I will be bringing so for now I don't know what type of food I will be bringing. I have a few members on the forum helping me put together the shooting games so there will be lots of fun. After my visit with the cove this saterday I will post up some pics & the games planned for the 25th. I am looking forward to meeting all of you! See you guys then

Hello everyone!
So this past Saturday Member ZwergVl & I went up to The Cove to get a look around and shoot some guns. Needless to say we were not as prepared as we should have been but I will get to that. From Manassas it took about an hour and a half to get there. Drive west on i66 to i81 into a town then some dirt roads. When you finally arrive you see a big sign pointing you in the right direction. Once you get to the office you will see some cones and someone waiving you over to inquire how long you plan on staying. You go inside you pay via cash or credit/debit card and they will give you a well drawn out map to get to your destination. The map makes the drive look longer than what it really is.
So we start driving and notice everyone has SUV's, Jeep wranglers, or some other type of truck. The very first vehicle we past was a pickup truck. The driver leans over, as we are driving by one another, and say's "You guys are crazy". We both laughed not realizing what we were going up against. The guys at the office told us we probably wont make it to the rang with our car so we have the option of driving down a path near a lake and walking up the rest or possibly catching a ride with someone in that direction. The entire drive all I was thinking was “why am I on this road?!”

. Thinking the roads were longer than what they really were we accidently passed the road leading to the lake (even though we both clearly saw it). There is one section of the trail that really stands out among the rest. It is a two section uphill or as I called it "The Hill of Death"

My little Volkswagen made it up to the half way point where traction got completely lost! I wasn’t stuck I simply couldn’t go up anymore

. We gave it maybe two more tries and decided it was best to quit while we were ahead. Put it in neutral and just let it roll down. Found a spot in the hill that seemed as if it were made for moments like this lol. Parked it and we walked the rest.
Got to the range and there were plenty of people already there having a blast. At first we thought we would have to wait to find a spot to lay our gear down at but then we noticed a slight hill with a section no one was using. We set up and had about 5 hours of continuous fun! Unfortunately all the really really cool shots that would have been recorded were taken in my GoPro.. Which I forgot to put the SD card into

.. So next time I will have to triple check everything.
Now this place is not maintained at all. Shotgun shells pretty much covered the entire floor. Broken glass bottles, bear cans, tv’s, computers, detergent bottles, I mean the list just goes on with all the crap that gets shot to heck there. While there was no one overseeing everyone’s behavior and safety it appeared that each group there had their own group leader. No one appeared to be reckless. We are going again before the big day! This place has A LOT to offer.
Well that is all for now. I will be posting pics later in the day. I am at work and have a busy day planned out. But I will post pics and maybe a few vids. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Hope to see everyone soon!

Woot this is going to be fun. I cannot wait. I will be able to get to the pavilion but I will need a ride from some one to the range. My little car is not going to make it.

I can do some shuttling between the pavilion and the range. I still need to rent the pavilion, too.

I have a truck but its two wheel drive........ I'll certainly give it a shot but the tires are stock so I doubt it happens. Walking is all good with me. Maybe I'll bring a cart.

As I said before in the last thread but I'll bring my truck (its 4 wheel drive) and I'll help with the shuttling.

If my wife is willing, I'll be going, too. I can bring Kalbee if anyone is interested.

The pavilion is rented for the 25th. There is no electricity at the pavilion. There are a couple of fire pits, but no grills - so we will need to bring our own grill(s).
The range is about 3/4 mile from the pavilion. We'll be setting base at the pavilion and cooking, eating, etc. Bring your own target stands if you have them. I have a few steel targets that I'll be bringing (Thanks SgtBill!). Also should have a RedStitch dueling target by then.
Here's the pavilion at the picnic area followed by a map image with two locations highlighted in yellow. The map is a large file and you'll probably have to click it to view all of it at once.

My partner in crime is also Reca =) He is planning and making all the shooting games. Thanks for renting the pavilion, Allingeneral.
I am going to bring at least one Grill maybe two. If some one wants to bring an extra one that would be great.
In light of where we are going to be, I will be making the pulled pork at home, and grilling the flank steak, and hot to dogs on the grill that I/we bring.
I also plan on bringing some balls and games for the kids to play while I am grilling.

I can bring an extra grill. Pretty standard side, doesn't lit on it's own or cook evenly, heck it isn't even stainless, but if you need it I can bring it.

So, burgers and dogs... how many grills do we need? I'm guessing that we'll have around 30 people... Depending on the size of your grill, I think one should be enough, eh?
We're also asking that everyone bring a side dish if you can.

Allingeneral - was not planning on making burgers at the site. I can bring some though. I am planning on bringing Pulled Pork, Grilling marinated flank steak, and hot dogs. If you want I can add burgers to the mix.
I was thinking two grills. One for the the flank steaks and one to cook the dogs on.

Sorry I have not posted the pics yet. The move took up a heck of a lot more time & energy than I was expecting. I will post soon. Same goes with the shooting games.
