finally got a rifle to shoot those 308 silver bullets. My dpms sass arrived today and as my local ffl only charges $20 a transfer I spent the money I saved buying online on a case of "British aerospace defense royal ordnance" 7.62x51 750rnds on stipperclips with a shelf expiration date of 2004. He said that he had two cases for personal use and has never had a problem but he cleans after use. I am hoping that being brit and newer it is non-corrosive but figured I should double check with folk who know more than me. I clean every gun after every time firing but I try to field "pre-wash" those that have fired corrosive rounds like my mossin using ammo from vintage surplus tins before giving a proper cleaning when I get home.

Naturally the week after I finally get my 308 and before I can buy proper optics, my dishwasher dies and the wife tells me she's pregnant :dunno:
so it will probably be another year or two till I can get a scope the rifle deserves.

I have some cases of this stuff in my stash, but haven't shot any. Any NATO-spec ammo will be noncorrosive; that said, I seem to remember some rumors going around back when this stuff was commercially available that it was faked, something various countries (especially the Chinese) have been known to do.

I don't put much stock in those rumors, which is why I've still got it. Never heard any followup on those rumors either, which tells me it was BS.
