so let's see... when you're Obama, it's "evolving". when you're an opponent, it's "flip-flopping".
hypocrite.

" Obama once opposed such marriages. He later indicated his views were 'evolving.' "

Everybody always knew he was in favor of it. He couldn't admit it publicly in 2008 because it would lose too many votes. I'm sure he did it today with some reluctance, because of the loss of black and hispanic votes, but the polls are not the reason he did it. He went public today because his fundraising is way behind schedule and he needs to activate the gay lobby to contribute to his campaign.
The MSM will tell you he's evolving, much of the conservative press will tell you it's about the polls with Romney leading even in Gallup. But the real reason is money.

NC is a battleground state and after yesterday's vote banning gay marriage as part of the state's constitution he needed something to rally the troops there.

Frankly, his new stance doesn't surprise me at all.

I'm surprised it took him this long to come out of the closet.

House panel votes to ban same-sex marriages on US military bases
On the same day that President Barack Obama declared his support for same-sex marriage, the House Armed Services Committee backed measures prohibiting the practice on U.S. military bases.

I suspect no one is surprised by this. He did it to get donors I think, but he may lose some votes as a result. Latinos, blacks, and catholics are not known for their tolerance of the homosexual lifestyle.

I just got an e-mail from none other than Nancy Pelosi concerning the POTUS's announcement. Guess what the subject line said?
"BREAKING: President Obama supports marriage equality"
MARRIAGE EQUALITY? REALLY? Nothing like getting the mushroom treatment first thing in the morning.
That characterization pretty much amounts to a baldfaced lie. The arrogance and contempt for the capacity of the general public to think for themselves that this bespeaks is sickening.

Was listening to NPR on the way home, the host kept trying to insinuate this, but every black pastor they had on are still 100% comitted to Obama.
He got 54% of the Catholic vote last time, don't see it changing much. And Latinos, well, after the primary rhetoric, they're lost.
In reality the people who already hate him and actually care about this issue weren't gonna vote for him anyway, and vice-versa.
I did notice he'd kick it to the states, while Romney vows a federal ban. States rights much?
In any event its a non-issue to fill a slow news day.

I agree he will get the black vote on the whole no matter what. At this point I think he could say "I am a Muslim and I was born in Kenya, look here is the proof" and he would still get the black vote. I think he will lose some conservative Latinos, more votes than blacks, but less than might be hoped for by talking heads. Where I think you are off is the Catholic base. He has stuck his finger in the eye of Catholics every chance he got and a bunch of them (the ones that go to Mass every week) that might have voted for him (because they see welfare and other social programs as charity) will likely turn away. Now those that are Catholic in name only won't likely turn, but church going serious Catholics are really really angry about his contraception nonsense, his guarantee that abortion won't be funded in the health care bill---and ooops oh looky there it is, and now this. Sway enough and he could really have a problem with that demographic.
But yes this is a noise story designed to turn the attention that was on the state of NC and possibly WV back onto

People, people... Of course this "evolution" was announced as election year stumping. That wasn't my point for posting.
My point is: the prez changes his mind, calls it "evolving" and the msm doesn't bat an eye. If the prez's opponent were to come out tomorrow and say he'd changed his mind, he would not be able to finish the sentence before the msm screamed "flip-flopper!!!".

Of course...I don't expect any different from the msm. Liberals who change their mind to even more liberal ideas are called thoughtful and evolving. When a conservative does the same he is a flip flopper and a panderer. Can't expect anything different. Happily more and more people are getting wise to the MSM and are tuning out. So we will see what happens next.

I'm not sure about that, but I do hope you're right, nonetheless. Critical thinking seems to be a skill of fewer and fewer people.

There is a
huge disconnect between the Church leadership in the US and its laity. Its stance on birth control is widely ignored, priestly celibacy is seen as an archaic relic, the refusal to ordain women irritates some, etc. Its worth noting weekly Mass attendees are the minority in their own religion.
Incidentally the largest religious group in the US is "lapsed Catholic" after all.
Catholics on average are more liberal than Protestants, plus they're concentrated in the Northeast which trends heavily Democratic due to the history of the area.
Obama may not get 54% this time, but i don't think he'll go under 50% with the Catholics which haven't voted as a block in decades anyway since white flight broke the parish-neighborhood system that was the backbone of US Catholic life.

The Democrats are confident that they can keep black voters on their plantation. But not all black voters are fooled. Here is a great organization that deserves more publicity and funding, and they know how to counter the Left's propaganda and government-benefit bribery of minorities:
