If your in the area, The Christiansburg Montgomery County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League is holding it's annual Kids Fishing Rodeo Sunday May 20th.

Kids ages 4-12 can fish for Rainbow Trout and get a free lunch. (and keep the fish)
Bring your fishing gear and have fun!

Registration starts at noon and fishing at 2pm.

What kind of fishing gear does one bring for catching trout? SHould I teach my kid how to use a fly rod? lol

A stick, some string and a pole is all you need.
Other folks (myself included) use one of those pole/reel thingies with a really small hook and 2 grains of corn.
I have seen lots of fish caught with fly rods in the pond.
Bring what ya got's and have fun!

Never forget my father and I trout fishing in upstate NY and looking down river to see a girl who couldn't be more than 8 with a pink plastic Snoopy fishing pole bring up a massive trout with the help of her dad....so I'm inclined to agree with 007dad that anything works.

We caught nothing that day...or a typical father son fishing outing for us...hells yeah!

Fishing rodeo went great. Had 160 kids sign up and everybody got some sort of prize not to mention a hot dog chips and a drink.
The weather was perfect, food was good. A great Sunday.
