New Mexico goes berserk on reciprocity

If you thought your concealed permit was honored in NM, think again - chances are it no longer is. About a month ago NM had concealed carry permit reciprocity with nearly half the states in the USA; today, NM's reciprocity is down to just five states. VA was one of the many casualties. I find it odd how Wisconsin only honors VA non resident permits.

Has to do with how background checks are done I think. Apparently the state police (who issue the non-resident permits) do things differently than do the counties

This is further confirmation of the impression I've had of New Mexico; that it's not especially civil rights-friendly. Actually, most of the southwest isn't - Nevada and Texas are not much better. Arizona's the only one that walks the walk.

Good News! Apparently the regional and national backlash (lots of calls, emails and letters) against NM's going berserk on reciprocity has been both highly and quickly effective. As of 1 May:
New Mexico currently recognizes concealed carry permits from or has reciprocal agreements with the following states: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

What's up with Colorado? They don't accept Virginia's permit, and they won't accept an out of state permit, either.

Pursuant to Colorado law (CRS 18-12-213), the State of Colorado will recognize a valid permit issued in another state IF the permit was issued to a resident of the state issuing the permit, and the permit tee is 21 yrs of age or older, AND the other state recognizes Colorado permits as valid in their state.
and VA's
P. A valid concealed handgun or concealed weapon permit or license issued by another state shall authorize the holder of such permit or license who is at least 21 years of age to carry a concealed handgun in the Commonwealth, provided (i) the issuing authority provides the means for instantaneous verification of the validity of all such permits or licenses issued within that state, accessible 24 hours a day, and (ii) except for the age of the permit or license holder and the type of weapon authorized to be carried, the requirements and qualifications of that state's law are adequate to prevent possession of a permit or license by persons who would be denied a permit in the Commonwealth under this section.
Maybe CO doesn't have the 24/7 verification in place?
