Ouch. That had to hurt but it's just one of many things that may happen when you carelessly handle a firearm.

Great example of what NOT to do. Going a step further - keep finger totally outside trigger guard until pointed down range, safety is switched off, and aimed at target.

"Glock foot". HA! That's a good one. It captures my dislike of the "trigger safety" they use with just the right degree of derision to aggravate the Glock user.
But it ain't plumb fair in this case. Just like the OP said; finger off the trigger/out of the guard until you're trained on-target". Then it shouldn't matter if there is NO safety on the gun - unless you drop it. And even if you've got TWO safeties, you can still shoot your toes off if you don't USE 'em.
It boils down to one of my favorite aphorisms: "nothing is foolproof because fools are so ingenious".

One of the reasons I install a NY Trigger spring and 3.5 Connector, in my Glocks... That little extra trigger pull can help to prevent "Glock Foot" when the trigger snags on your pants or you stupidly or brain farting have too much pressure on the trigger holstering it..

WOW!!! If you follow the 4 firearms safety rules, stuff like this won't happen!

I have a cousin who put a .40 S&W hollowpoint through his arm (palm to almost the elbow) with a double action only semi auto Colt. You can screw up even with a heavy/long trigger pull.
