Is there any public-access range that has a patterning board for shotguns? I know Bull Run has a patterning board but it is, from what was told to me last time, located on one of the trap/skeet fields. You can arrive a little bit early before they open and use the board but I don't see myself waking up at 7am on a weekend to pattern...just not feasible for me.

Prince Georges Trap and Skeet up in MD is the same way, the board is located on one of the skeet fields and you have to show up before they open to use it.

I'm looking to pattern my gun with birdshot, #5, #6, and #7.5 size lead shot.

I'm located out near Dulles Airport.

We have a patterning board at Northern Virginia Gun Club. But that's an hour+ away from you and you can only enter with a member.

Does anyone know of anything closer to Dulles?

As a wing-shooter from way back, I've "patterned" many a shotgun with a slab of pasteboard, but I'd never, in all my borned days, heard of such a thing as a "patterning board" before today. I even did a Yahoo search on it. In case there are others out there who shared my ignorance, I'll post a link to some good information about that. Strikes me it's easily done on the do-it-yourself basis I've always used.

You have missed the point.

1st thing, I don't have access to open land where I can shoot patterns at a "slab of pasteboard". Hence my original inquiry about finding at least a public access range that has a dedicated area to pattern shotguns, away from the trap/skeet/sporting clays fields. I was using the term "patterning board" in the general sense: an area of a range where they may have a rudimentary set-up to hang your paper and pattern your gun.

I'm located out near Dulles so anything within the NoVa would be preferred.

I think the patterning board we use at the club is just a chunk of plywood. I don't recall ever seeing any markings on it other than bird-shot pellets.

I think Clarks Bro range in Warrenton has one.

No offense intended. I got the point. The fact that you live where you live does indeed oblige you to either overcomplicate some things or just not do them. I was just genuinely amazed that there was actually a web page on a "patterning board". To me, from my rustic and backwards frame of reference born of a lifetime of relatively bucolic existence (which I treasure), it would almost be like finding an offical website with established specialized terminology on how to scratch your arse.
