Richmond, Spring 2012, Meet-n-Greet

Ok people I have seen chatter back and forth and on different occasions. Let's get a meet-n-greet going !!!!

I don't know a lot of you so I don't know what everybody is in to ? Do you want to try to meet at a range type deal ? Would everyone like to meet at a restaurant and toss back a few while shooting the breeze ? That would be my preference, It is cool to go to the range, however can't really talk and I like to concentrate on what I am doing and not worry about holding a convo. If throwing a few beers aren't your thing then, meeting at Barnes and Nobles or something along those lines could be an option also.

Of course anyone in the state would be welcome but I would like to meet some people within my geographic area FTF.

So If you are interested, sound off here;

1. What part of town you are in
2. What days/times your are normally available
3. What activities are you interested in

I'll start it off:

1. I'm in Chesterfield, could make just about anything under 2 hours away.
2. Complete luck. If we can hold it in April I could probably ask off. But I've had to do a fair bit of that already for the month of March.
3.Always down for shooting! Would be great if someone had some private property but if not there is Dominion, The Smoking Gun(never been), and I think the Fort Lee range is still open(never been). I'm a little young for drinking but anything else I fine. Regardless of whether or not there is drinking the eating should be after the shooting. Shooting when stuffed with food is no fun.

Alright guys let's get this rolling!

I vote for less drinking and more shooting. Or maybe a dinner kinda deal...or maybe shooting, then dinner. I'm not in Richmond, so can't help with ideas on where to go. I will try to make it though.

Ok, two votes for Shooting then Dinner ! I am good with that.

We could go/meet at Black Creek Range in Hanover, however I can only bring two guests at a time. If we get a small group together, I might be able to ask the owner for some group time for VGOF, on one of the alternate ranges. The only down side with that is, I only have a weekday membership, so obviously would have to be on a weekday.
Also, Colonial Shooting range might be open by that time in the City of Richmond, the new public/private range they are opening. Downside to that is if you are the public you have to wait for a range and they haven't established how they are going to do that yet or prices.

Let me know what you think.

Im in Henrico just off Staples Mill. I say shooting then some dinner . Im open all day everyday ,
Perks of working the night shift. No real preferance on where we shoot but dinner might be another story.

I am in Mechanicsville. Maybe we could talk ProShooter into letting us their training range in Doswell and then dinner at the Bass Pro restaurant.

You must be thinking of somewhere else. This range is private.

Unfortunately, as much as I'd like to, we can't do that.

The range has dates that are spoken for, both by myself and for a few other instructors. There are classes already scheduled.

The other issue is liability. Our insurance covers mishaps when a class is taking place. We would not be covered should something happen at an event lke this.

Sorry guys...

Understandable, since there is insurance involved its a little different from just having some property. The range I was thinking of is "American Defense" but there really in NoVA and as it turns out the website looks down I wonder if the range is gone.

So that leaves us with Dominion, Blackcreek(maybe), Colonial Shooting(I bet they are well booked),Fort Lee Range(only open Sundays) and the Smoking Gun.

On thing to consider is that most of the indoor ranges(and fort lee) and only going to allow .223 some allow 308. The really cool big bores rifles would be left out of the party.

Am I missing anything?

Seems like a Saturday might be best. I've never been to Clark Brothers.

Is there anyplace where we can shoot outdoors?

Maybe for just a quick get-together, a dinner date might be more apropos.

Of course not, every(person) is invited, as far as I am concerned !!!

Doswell sounds cool, however I would like to stay in the Metro Richmond Area, for an initial get-to-gether. I am up for travelling up 95, don't get me wrong, just not for the "first" one.

So, we are not looking to good for a shooting event !! Maybe I can talk to the owner of Colonial Shooters Academy for some trigger time, since they will be opening soon.. I am sure they want a lot of people to show up in the initial opening, to get things going ???
