North American Hunt Club, What do you think?

Post by Chingon »

So here's the thing, I became a life member about 10 years ago and have no idea on how this has helped me. I've done the field testing for various products, never getting anything of worth (not that I was expecting to), mostly shoddy gimmicks that someone thought was a good idea but impractical in the field (screw-in mirror to look behind you, small pocket knife that with hard, boxy edges for the handle making it impractical for use, butane mosquito repellant for hunting [no mosquitos in my area during deer season]) and ALWAYS a recommended overprice (I wouldn't pay that much for it.)

OK, I did get one great benefit out of it and I would have to say its the magazine. My boys are ALWAYS the first to read it. If anything one advantage is that it encourages hunting.

So my question is other than the hunting show and their magazine which, by the way, repeats articles OVER and OVER again, has anybody ever got anything useful out of being a member?

I know, its a club and you have to make something out of it but, if I knew then what I know now.....

In truth? Used to be a member, but with my "gun dollars" going to VCDL, and GOA... I find they protect my gun rights, NAHC is just "nifty".

I only bring it up because today in the mail I was offereda chance to become a Trophy Life Member for an extra 130 bucks and it will entitle me to be automatically enrolled into the field testing program with "exciting" items that are valued at no less than $25. What incentive is there to be a Life Memeber? That was the reason I joined in the first place. Starting to sound like a scam to me.

Other than getting some junk in the mail to test out, is there ANYTHING this "club" does for it's members... besides the magazine? Sounds like a big 'ol scam to me.

My dad used to be a park of the Handyman Society of America back when he did that for a living. Same type of thing, worthless.

Here's the email thread to customer service. Interested to hear your replies. Went to the NAHC Forums and was not very suprised to see the same sentiments. I'm trying to get some sort of justification as to why?? If there is no "Why" only because we can, as club members we should have a say into it. At the very least make others aware.

Again, why from the Life Members, especially those that have been a member of the club for the better part of a decade? I feel ,as a commitment to those that commited before these services were offered, we should be grandfathered. I find it repulsive and misleading that we, as LIFE MEMBERS, who committed for life and were solicited an amount suitable at the time for all priveleges of the club; we paid! Now we have to pay AGAIN?? And you don't see anything wrong with that??

Dear Albert,

Thank you for your email. We apologize for the confusion. The Trophy membership has added benefits which one is a test item that has a value of $25.00 or more. The benefits of the Trophy membership also include discounts and online deals.

Ms. Jay,
It is fairly apparent that your customer service department does not read the posted emails of its members. I was unaware that the tone of the email had anything to do with Product Testing. In fact, I was under the impression that this message was to find out why Life Members are being scammed into becoming a Trophy Member in the interest of automatically being enrolled into the Product Testing program instead of offering it automatically to those that have already committed to the club. In other words, why are those who have committed to the club being taxed yet again? Sounds like a devious Sunday Sermon where they pass the collection plate twice to drain as much cash as possible from its congregation.

Dear Albert,

Thank you for your email. Product testing is something that is offered as a Member benefit. A form must be completed to enroll in the product testing program. Manufacturers have our members test items and complete evaluation reports on the items tested. If you are interested in this benefit, you also may complete the Product Test Profile on our website www.huntingclub.com under the Member Benefits link.
