VA Democrats whine about "Republican Overreach"

Post by allingeneral »

House and Senate Democrats this morning unloaded on Republicans, who now control both chambers, for pushing social legislation that has dominated much of the legislative session's first half.

The 17 Democratic legislators decried dozens of bills that they claim target the poor, limit women's choices, discriminate against immigrants, suppress the vote and expand gun rights.

House Minority Leader David J. Toscano, D-Charlottesville, noted that Gov. Bob McDonnell in his State of the Commonwealth Address at the start of the session had asked Republicans not to overreach.

"But what we're seeing here in Richmond right now is classic overreach in the social arena," he said.

Specifically, the group focused on legislation to repeal of the state's longstanding one-handgun-a- month law, require an ultrasound before abortions and require drug screening for welfare recipients.

"It is now easier to get a gun in Virginia – and as many as you want effective July 1 – than it is to vote," said Senate Democratic Leader Richard L. Saslaw, D-Fairfax.

Bullcookies. As I understand it, the law now is that you can't do either one if you're an illegal alien and/or can't produce valid ID. What's wrong with that?

Of course, you can now buy two guns, but you can only vote once per election. THAT must be what has the liberals so upset.

Love it when they get this $hit shoved down their throat,,, They didn't seem unhappy last should year when they threw a monkey wrench into a lot of good bills with their damn death committee nad passed asome really bad bills to boot...... The Repubs should continue to do just what they are doing ,,,Its what we elected them for...

"Specifically, the group focused on legislation to repeal of the state's longstanding one-handgun-a- month law, require an ultrasound before abortions and require drug screening for welfare recipients'. Ain;t a damn thing wrong with any of these,,, Hell if it was me I'd make work for welfare a requirement if the receiver is able bodied, 20 to 30 hours of service to get the check would be fine,,, No work ,No bucks.. Oh and Saslaw is a butthole!!

Nah, I bet they still pay some folks to get up to the polls on election day...

Turnabout is fair play. Of course, when things swing back over to the other side as they always do the Republicans will be whining. Rinse and repeat.
