Defensive Gun use - CATO

The CATO institute has created a cool map where citizens can note the place and basic story of defensive gun uses. I noticed that Virginia was pretty sparsely populated, and I KNOW there are more stories out there. If you have one, get on the map and let us know!

The entry for adding your story is under the map.

People may be less apt to participate because of a number of reasons, no the least of which is inviting unwanted attention or interest in their "story".
Plus, if this is an end-user contribution site, then it serves to reason that many people probably don't know it exists.
I didn't.
Just like meeting new OCers who've never heard of OCDO, VGOF or VCDL. They're more common than not.

They don't have to give their name to be displayed publicly, many of the stories don't.

You answered the one query but avoided the other.
Consequently if the submissions are anonymous, then how are they vetted/confirmed?

That is a great question. I'm interested in the answer to that one, myself.

Looks like you have to include the url to the article or media webpage to confirm

Isn't it a damn shame that a man's word doesn't mean spit anymore. I do understand that the world we live in requires us to use due dilligence, however it's still a shame. Personally I'll not tell stories about the past even to my wife and children. They weren't there and wouldn't understand. As for self defense uses in civilian cases seems to be like asking for a punitive damages lawsuit be second party. IMHO.
