AR15 BCGs - Nickel Boron?

Post by Ordnance »

Anyone use a FailZero coated Bolt & Carrier Group on their .223/5.56? (Spike's sells one of theirs that are coated as well).

Thoughts on it if you have?

I use the upper, bcg, hammer, I think its called the battle pack or some silliness like that. I would say if you think that it'll make it run forever don't and cleaning is much much easier but not just wipe away as some have said. What it will do is run for a very long time with little to no oil multiple time have i run 500 rounds in one sitting no oil what so ever with no FTF of FTE in fact ive never had the time or ammo to push it to where it would fail so I personally love it. If you get it for a decent price I would say go for it for sure as its really nice to never have to worry about rust oiling is unnecesary and function is definatly more reliable in my experience on my build. ill post up pictures after work and the upper is made to the correct specifics I had no issues pull the yankee hill barrel or larue handguard on.

That would be great if you could post up some pics of them!

Yeah, looking at the trigger group now too. Although, with the Spike's order delays right now, it could be a while to get if I ordered it.

I looked into them a few years back. Don't recall why, but I do remember the US military tested them (generic, don't recall brand) and decided against them for some reason. Might have been excessive upper wear.

I have some that are chrome and one that is a fail zero coating.

When it comes to cleaning I haven't really seen a difference from one to the other. Both are quicker/easier to clean up than a parkerized bolt/carrie.

I've had one interesting thing happen with the fail zero bolt and the similarly coated upper receiver. The rifle locked up on a couple of years ago. After determining there was no round in the chamber I first drove the bolt to the rear with a cleaning rod and hammer and got the empty case out of it. Then, or course, the bolt would not go forward so i still had to removed the buffer tube/stock and then drive the bolt forward with the soft faced hammer till I could get the upper receiver off the lower receiver. Once I got the upper off the lower I started driving the bolt back out of it again and found a spent primer wedged between the bolt and the left side of the receiver channel.

Neither the bolt nor the receiver has a mark on it from that spent primer and yet it was wedged tightly enough that it took a hammer to move the bolt either direction.

Whenever I get mine I'll post up some pics. Ordered a custom rifle from spikes with the BCG nickel boron, but I'm still waiting...already been 9 weeks.
