I can't wait to watch that, I was checking out some of the previews and it looks good. Looks like it will be a combination of the "crazies" and actually normal people prepping.

I'm a prepper. My wife has come around and stopped teasing me about being "Mr. End of the World" because I want to live low cost and out of a pantry since she realized we'll be down to just my income after she gives birth and we're set to have to foreclose on her old home that we can't afford to keep renting under cost. I'm.... a normal prepper

. The other day, I was talking with a friend of mine about dehydrated goods, etc and she just drops the idea of cannibalism on me. She's a crazy. It just floors me how fine that line is.
I'll be watching, and probably laughing hysterically.

I saw the pilot a couple months ago. SouthernPrepper1 and Engineer775 from YouTube where both on the pilot and even though neither of them are crazy them they didn't really portray them in a positive light. This next episode I know dsarti1 is going to be on it. He's not really my cup of tea so I couldn't tell you much about him.
I forget what other youtuber was asked to be on but he said when he spoke them they didn't want to talk about the the real meat and bones of prepping, food, solar, generators, ect . Instead their questioning was all about the things people think of as crazy: gas masks, guns, bunkers, ect. If I can find the vid I'll post it.

My question? Other than here, and sharing some ideas, and neither confirming/nor denying anything...
WHY would you put yourself out there like that? First, you bring attention to yourself! Second, if the guv'mint ain't gonna "red flag" you, then all your neighbors who don't prep will look to YOUR stores as "Community Property", Third, the secret to being a good prepper, share skills, and ideas... NEVER DETAILS!

Exactly, I understand putting yourself out there to some degree for the sake of helping others. But I doubt many look at this Nat Geo show and think, "These guys are onto something!" instead they'll think "These folks are nuts!".

I hate to say it, but these folks had to suspect at least that TV wasn't going to show them as anything other than a rogue counter culture.... frustrating. I wonder if it was wanting to help others vs. excitement to get some attention or maybe validation for their independent effort in some cases. I've watched a couple of these types of programs lately and I always come away with the feeling that the real reason behind the productions is to reassure the masses that they're going to be ok and not to worry, continue to depend on things staying the way they are and life will continue to be operate just fine.
It took a year of me routinely explaining a multitude of reasons to get my wife to agree that prepping and storing was a practical LIFESTYLE, and that's how i've had to explain it to other people (because if you live with a mindset of preparedness, you're ready regardless of the emergency and then you don't have to get into WHAT emergency you're preparing for with other people). And even then, friends and family think I'm nuts because I simply don't trust that if I run out of peanut butter life will always be so easy to let me run out and buy some more. But, even though she's on board with a stocked pantry, rain barrels and some home defense solutions, I really wonder if when SHTF I'll be dragging her through the initial shock with her kicking and screaming any way. Anyone else in that boat?

I liked it when the CDC posted about preparing for a Zombie appocalypse. Just like you said, as long as you are ready for some emergency of any type you are more prepared than most.

My doomsday plan is to devour my slower and weaker neighbors.
Cost effective, space saving, and I hear free range meat is the rage right now,,
and its good for the environment.
If anyone has a better idea, I'd like to hear it.

Plus Kreutz, you can say with a straight face ...
"I LOVE MY NEIGHBORS! SLOW COOKED WITH GARLIC AND BUTTER!"

Given my areas demographics, I must wonder, are Baptists kosher?

I'm pretty sure only the preachers have cloven hooves.

I gotta ask how a nice jewish boy winds up a gun toting liberatirian-ish Protestant heathen.
I thought I had a confusing background!

For that story? It would reveal WAY too much.
Let's just say I came to Christianity HONESTLY, and of my own FREEWILL!

I don't trust much of what National Geographic presents. I also distrust any other "educational" programing.

I am just hoping that they do not make preppers out to be crazies. I don't think the world is ending but with so much uncertainty it is nice to have a little piece of mind.

Honestly, you'd be VERY surprised who is a "prepper"/"survivalist"...
Mormons, Country Folk, most ex-military, and emergency personal, generally are P/S's....
"Mall Ninjas"? M'eh. I dunno. I think they may have some stuff they ordered out of Bud K's, or Sportsmen's Guide... but they haven't researched on their own, nor put their gear to the test.

I hear you, 40CalFireGuy. Regarding getting your spouse on board, mine is at least thinking more "survival minded" since she read the book "Lights Out" by David Crawford.
