Interesting article...and I'm not surprised. I got a phone call from someone claiming to be from the BATF about a year ago. Forget his name, but he asked if I still had in my possession "all the guns you have purchased in the past year?" My first reaction was : how do I know this guy is really w/the BATF ? and that was exactly what I asked him. I refused to answer any of his questions based on my suspicions, so he offered his name and phone number and suggested I call him back. I didn't call him back on the number he gave me, instead I looked up the main number for BATF and called it and explained what had just occurred, gave his name, but not the phone number he had given me. After about 15 minutes of being bounced from one extension to another, sure enough I was talking to the guy who had called me. I told him I still had every firearm purchse in my possession with the exception of 3 that I had given as gifts to my son, nephew and significant other and that they had since gone and had the firearms registered in their name via heir local FFL dealer, even though it was not required by law. Our conversation ended soon after I told him that and he even complimented me on my method of confirming he was in fact a BATF agent by using the main number and being transferred to his extension. The next day I called my FFL dealer and told him what had taken place w/the call from BATF. He was very surprised since he had not received a call inquiring about my purchases/transfers. This led us both to believe that the 2 online gun sites I frequent and where I made most of the purchases, are being monitored by BATF...but how did they get my name and phone number when members use screen-names as members here do ? I even called several of the sellers I had bought from and asked if they had been contacted about my purchase from them . None claimed to have been contacted, but the truth is only one would need to give my name and number and then it would be a simple matter of tracking purchases via my screen-name on the gun sites which would be easy enough to do by just checking feedbacks. I'm convinced the present administration could very well be encouraging if not requesting such monitoring of gun sites, in light of all the anti-gun laws they are attemping to get passed.

Um, if they are "watching" the websites they probably have everyone's IP who even visits. From there it's a simple request to the ISP for your personal info. There was some hoopla over the Telcos gaving LEAs remote access to their information because they got tired of all the requests and it was costing them a bundle. Much easier to set up a web interface and let them do it themselves. Of course the DOJ lawyers are claiming they don't need warrants...

I'd be surprised if the ISPs haven't done something similar already. If they can track you without a warrant, looking up your contact info from an IP is nothing.

The laws and Constitution do not seem to apply to the present administration...
Seems I remember reading this type behavior in the history books where the first thing dictatorships did was disarm the general population. I imagine it all started with "watching".

Because... To find a firearm they would need a SEARCH WARRANT for my HOME unless I INVITED them in!

A phone call? I would have my attorney call them back, and simply ask, "Is there a legal issue? Whose your supervisor? In what context do you have the authority to question someone for a legal purchase?"

This ain't "vehicles" where driving is a PRIVELLEGE! It's a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT AFFIRMED BY THE SCOTUS!
