Also castle doctrine being put up. For updates I would subscribe to VA-ALERT(aka email updates from VCDL).

That bill is not Constitutional Carry. You still must ask "Mother May I" in order to carry concealed. The CHP permitting process will remain. If you happen to be caught carrying concealed without your permit, you have to go to court and produce the permit and explain to the judge why you didn't have it on you at the time of the offense.

Bill would remove the need for a permit for most people to carry concealed. It does allow for issue of permits for use in other states. It also adds some penalties for carrying concealed during certain crimes. I think that parts of it need cleaned up and adding all allowed weapons to it as well.

Besides keeping up at VCDL, who should have their 2012 list up soon, you can also search for proposed bills yourself at

http://leg1.state.va.us/

Do searches for firearms, guns, castle etc. only a few bills listed so far but the bill list should fill up a lot next week.

HB 26 is the bill to change the penalty for not having the permit on you. HB139 removes the requirement to have one.

HB 20 is a big one.

It basically states "Emergency services and disasters; constitutional rights. Provides that nothing in the Emergency Services and Disaster Law shall be interpreted to limit or prohibit the possession, carrying, transportation, sale, or transfer of firearms."

No confiscation by big brother like during Katrina.

It is in the committee, House Militia, Police and Public Safety.

Here is the link to the State legislation. You can find bills by committee, number, member, just about anything. You can follow the bills as they procede and see where they are.
