Hello;

I am thinking about getting a can for hopeful new purchase, a Sis Sauer 1911 Tacops TB. Aside from the legal and paperwork issues, NFA trusts, etc, which I know are of prime concern, my question is, technically, will the can give enough sound reduction to make it worthwhile? Could I shoot w/o ear muffs? Any recommendations on what you all have found to work best on 45s? whether 1911 or otherwise?

Not sure what your expectations are, but a .45 suppressor is definitely worth it. If you could find land to shoot it on, it would def. be safe enough w/o ear protection, especially if you run the can wet.

Used to be all .45 cans needed to be shot wet to be what is usually considered "hearing safe". In the last couple of years that's changed, so that there are now two acceptable dry cans on the market. Everything else is old tech - who'd buy a five year old computer for almost a thousand bucks after taxes?

Look into the AAC Ti-Rant and the Silencerco Osprey 45. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. They cost about the same.

Diomed is correct, those are the two best and the only real hearing safe .45 cans available. You can also run them wet for enhanced performance. Warning, once you start playing with cans you're going want a lot more.

Oh how true this is...

YHM Cobra M2 Suppressor. Works good wet or dry. Dry is a little louder but you want need hearing protection.

7 month old thread... I suppose late is better than never.

YHM Cobra is very loud in comparison to the Osprey, TiRant and Liberty Miranda.

I have a couple SWR suppressors and a Gemtech..

The first thing I learned while researching suppressors is......No suppressor is technically hearing safe.

Second thing, the more noise around, the less you notice the noise of the gun shot.

Third thing, he bigger the hole the harder it is to suppress.

For the SWR 45ACP, I tested it in a very quiet concrete room. It sounds like someone dropped a large book. I can shoot it with no hearing protection. No one would suspect it as being a gun if I shot it in suburbia.

But the little 22lr suppressor is MUCH quieter. I could shoot a mime in a mall and no one would know.

So true. Cans and more can are a big paycheck burner for me... and agh, I now own 23 cans. A 45 can is a 100% good (and fun) buy!

Diomed you're right on the money with the ACC Ti-Rant being best for dry suppression. Haven't tried the Osprey... but I assure full satisfaction with a Ti-Rant.

To RWBlue01... I own a Joe Gaddini/SWR 45 can and it is not as quiet as the Ti-Rant. Not even close. Neither is Gemtech, AWC or KAC's SOCOM for that matter. I own them all. All three of those companies haven't improved their design in ages.

Before you buy anything check out Sig Sauer. They came out with their own line of cans.
I know nothing about them. Too many projects but will be looking for one on the future. Maybe a .22 sig and a 227 .45 Sig

And .45s are subsonic by nature, right?
