Is this a Gostbuster sign?

I have to ask since I do not read English. Had t take a run to Southside Community Hospital in Farmville http://www.sch-farmville.org couple of days ago and saw this odd sign on the front door.
Since I did not see an image of a pistola I thought it was OK to proceed into the Hospital wearing my Hawaiian shirt and my PM9 IWB. So what exactly does this sign mean?

Since the Circle is behind the words the slash does not go through the Words, so the symbol is constructed wrong. But the words do mean things. Sounds like open carry would be ok so long as you did not conceal or otherwise your pistol. :pistol:

I would have to say that sign definitely means "No Weapons Allowed - Concealed or Otherwise" which would include your PM9 or any other firearm - concealed or not concealed. No, none, nada, zilch.

But I've been wrong before.

There you have it. It covers guns and even knives if you want to be picky about it. One to add to the "do not patronize list" and someone needs to drop off a VCDL "We respect your wishes" card.

anything can be a weapon. Making something a weapon depends on how it is used. A chair is a chair untill you bust someone across the back with it, then it becomes a weapon. a ball point pin inserted into someones airway can be deadly. so if they abide by their own sign the can't have anything on the premisis.

That's same policy that Sentara hospitals have in place. However, they choose not to post any signs because they don't want the public to be concerned that there might be a problem with people bringing firearms into the hospital. I found this out one day when I stopped by Bayside Hospital to visit my mother while I was OC'ing.

By the look on the security guard's face, he must have soiled himself when he saw me and my Kimber. He didn't make me leave the premises after I voluntarily put the gun and holster in the suitcase I was carrying. He said it wasn't a problem if no one could see it. Sounds like I should have been CC'ing that day.

Well herohog you don't have to patronize the Hospital if you don't want to, that is fine. I will in fact continue to do so as for one they saved my life in the Emergency Room 6 year's ago when I had a Heart Attack from a 100% blockage of the left main decending artery. This is also known as a Widow Maker. I also know for a fact that several of the Nurses that work in the Emergency Room have carry permit's to include my WIFE. Try just ignoring the sign like everyone else has.

My wife is also works for Sentara, does anyone know the policy about employees having a concealed weapon in there purse. My wife works the late shift and has to walk out to her truck often at 1or 2 am. Yes she has a valid Virginia CCW. She is hesitant to ask because of possibly being labeled.

My advice is that if it is not written in an employee manual, don't ask. If it's written in something that an employee would be expected to be familiar with then she can be expected to know. If it's not written somewhere that a reasonable person would expect an employee to look then I wouldn't sweat it. My daughter-in-law couldn't find it in the Geico (her employer) handbook so, against my advice, she asked. The final answer was that she isn't even allowed to have one on the property. It took 2 weeks for the Geico HR people to figure than one out. She'd have been fine if she kept her mouth shut and locked it in the glove compartment while at work.

Wouldnt that sign be illegal? I thought the state reserved the rights to decide where 'weapons' can and cannot go. counties and cities cannot ban firearms in their buildings. only private citizens can ban guns.

Any property owner can ban firearms on their property without cause or reason.

And VA law requires that you follow their wishes.

but not the City or county I thought... I can carry in the town hall, so you should be OK to carry in city or county hospitals, unless I am not remembering correctly.

Who owns the hospital? It would be legal to carry in the VCU Medical Center (owned by the state) IF it were not illegal to carry on VCU property. Most hospitals are owned by either the governent (local/state/federal), a foundation (privately owned), or a corporation (privately owned). It seems that SCH is owned by a foundation and Sentara is a not-for-profit organization (corporation).

That's what it looks like to me as well... Not-for-profit - meaning that it is privately owned and is therefore subject to the rules and regulations that the property owner deems necessary.

ok, I wasnt sure who owned the Hosp. in question,,, The last 3 times i want to my local hosp. I was packin. After seeing the 'high profile' (middle eastern, obese, non-english-speaking) security I thought it was best to take my safety into my own hands..

Farmville's hospital is privately owned by Centra Health.
