These ought to drive the anti-gunners up the wall.

Just ordered a set of these. I had them add Novak three dot sights; I have trouble seeing those thin standard 1911 sights anymore. If you blow up the pics, you can see the inscription that says something like: "Fear no man, no matter the difference in size, for I will equalize." Now who, besides a drooling homicidal maniac would inscribe that on a gun? Bet a crusading Commonwealth's attorney or Plaintiff's attorney in a wrongful death or maiming case would have a field day with that. GAWD, don't ya just love it?

Wonder if they'd let me use them at the Frontsight class my buddy gave me? Trouble is, he didn't give me the airfare and hotel money; or spending money for SWMBO, who will have to be taken along and left in Vegas.

I like them, but I wouldn't put them on a daily carry gun. Not unless I get my own movie deal with a cool nickname like Dirty Harry.

I assume that double holster must be intended to be worn in the small of the back; but only because I can't think of anyplace else it might work. (In which case I need to check and make sure I can REACH the small of my back) Never saw one before. Anybody know for sure?

Please note:
This is simply what I have read about SOB holsters and I have not actually carried SOB style before either.

It does appear to be a Small of Back (SOB) type holster, but they are usually built so that the grip of the pistol is angled up not down. The reason being is that if you try to draw from the holster pictured you will probably end up sweeping yourself with the barrel(s) of the pistol. You don't necessarily need it to try, just imagine it is back there and try drawing from the imaginary holster. The way the picture has it, when you grip the pistol the back of your wrist is facing your back, so you will naturally turn your wrist to the right as you pull the pistol from behind and sweep your back and legs.

With a SOB holster that places the grip pointing up, the inside of your wrist will be facing your back and thus will provide a natural draw that will help avoid sweeping yourself. When you draw from that position you simply pull up and out, and bring it around without having to really twist your wrist. It of course is still possible to sweep yourself with that style as well, but it is much less likely and is a more natural draw. Of course with almost any style of holster it is possible to sweep yourself or others and you need to train with what ever style holster you own.

The other major detraction of SOB holsters is what happens when you slip and fall and land on it. With the way this is styled you are most likely carrying it directly over your spine and could potentially cause major injury. From what I have read most people who do carry using a SOB holster usually only use single weapon holsters (vs the one pictured that holds two) and tend to have the weapon to one side or the other of the spine to avoid this issue.

Please do not get me wrong and think I am saying that this is a bad holster. Some people swear by SOB holsters, other strong side IWB/OWB, cross draw, armpit carry, or ankle holsters. To each their own and YMMV.

I'll add one more minor irritation of a SOB,,,I use one on occasion and find driving with it and the gun at that location can be very irritating..most times I take the gun out and set it on the seat next to me, Then return it at vehicle exit

When I used to carry SOB I preferred to carry my pistol as shown in that picture. Why? Having the pistol facing the other way and drawing from the holster screwed up my shoulder. No, I didn't sweep myself when I drew, either.

The guns are awesome. Not too fond of that holster, though. This is pure speculation on my part, but being of small frame and short torso, I'd likely have to raise my hands up to my armpits (with my hands behind my back, of course) just to free the guns from that holster. Then, of course, there's the issue of clothing getting in the way. I imagine that if I had the money to afford those fine guns, I could also afford a holstering system that would fit me better.

If you are attached to that double holster, though, perhaps you could modify it to double as a belt buckle?

Regardless of my holster opinions, though, congrats on your purchase. They make one hell of a statement, and the photo's alone made me smile.

Them sure is a pretty pair!!

I'm much like SHMIV - I'd have to raise my hands to my armpits to draw from that holster, but it sure looks awfully cool...

When you headed to Frontsight??

It's a long way and no small expense to learn how to do what I've been doing for a lifetime, but if I go it will be no sooner than late winter/early spring.

I think those two 1911's would look mighty nice in a double shoulder holster setup

Because too much firepower is never enough. I wonder if I should wear that double shoulder rig to the chiropractor and ask him why my back is killing me?.

I was sorta thinking along the lines of the double shoulder holsters AND a waist belt with a side holster on each hip and the SOB hosters in the back. Why carry 2 when you can carry 4; and why just 4 when you can carry 6? Besides, that would make it easier to choose which 1911 to take with me.

Make sure you report back when you go out to Front Sight. I bought the Protector membership but can't rationalize going out there right now. Can't Wait! :pistol:

Don't forget your ankles! You could either carry a couple of sub-compact 1911's or if that's not comfortable on your ankles, maybe go ahead and get a couple of little .380's.

Sho'nuff. Also, remember that titanium-gold Desert Eagle I was talking about buying? Maybe I should get that, too; and wear it on a gold chain around my neck. What would that be? about 15-18 pounds of guns and ammo? Last time my spine doctor gave me a weight limit, it was 8 pounds. At that time I was OK with that, because a six-pack didn't weigh but 5 or so. I've since been released to my own judgment, so I reckon I can tote double my old limt. Might have to get somebody else to tote the six-pack, though. Wouldn't want to overdo, you know.

Double shoulder rig, pair of hip holsters, double SOB holster, ankle holsters... you guys kill me.

Just be sure the next time you're out on the boat and have an 'unfortunate boating accident,' you don't fall overboard along with your 'collection' - you'll sink straight to the bottom!
