I would like to accurately date my p38. It also has several id marks on the slide and frame. Can anyone here shoot me in the right direction for that info? I have tried the p38 forum and will be posting pics soon, butis there a site that I could simply plug in the serial number? Thanks

Thank you for the post. I'm checking into it right now, and no its not a warbird although I'd like one of those as well.

Funny that; when I first saw the title of this thread, my first thought was that the OP needed instructions on how to use a P38 can opener. (Slightly off topic, but P38 can openers are available at the Ft. Eustis Transportation Museum gift shop)

Whoa, does the museum gift shop also carry the slightly larger version of the p38 can opener, the P-51? And to go even slightly further off topic, why does the army keep naming their can openers after cool warbirds?
