Young and I are planning a day trip to Staunton on 5 July. She's relatively new to the world of guns and I want to give her an orientation to pistol, shotgun, and rifle in the open air and unhindered by time or RO/SO over the shoulder. I'm not sure what time we'll start since we'll be coming from Alexandria, but I'm hoping to leave relatively early. If you're interested in a little fellowship and fun please join us. I'll post updates as we finalize plans.

Are you going to the Hite Hollow range to shoot? If so, My wife Terri and I will be glad to join you. We will be testing our, new to us, 22/45, Red Hawk .4 Magnum and SUB-2000 in addition to our usual Model 10-8 and my P-11.

That's the plan, Speedy. Would like that very much. I'll be bringing a small arsenal and "testing" them all. I'll give an update later in the week.

Its about a 3 hour drive from Alexandria. And the only place I'm aware of where you can shoot "unhindered" for as long as you want unless folks are waiting. I'm hoping to get there before 11 and leave around 3 or so.

Rt.66 to Rt.81 south running 70mph. should take you 2 1/2 hours. There is a similar setup west of Harrisonburg that is about a 1/2 hour closer. I might try to get there too.

Hollow shooting range at George Washington National Park,
http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/gwj/northriver/ ... llow.shtml
From Staunton, take State Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike/West Beverly) west 8 miles to Buffalo Gap, VA where 254 becomes State Route 42 (Little Calfpasture Highway). Continue on Route 42 for approximately 8 miles to Augusta Springs, and turn right onto State Route 845 which runs into Forest Development Road (FDR) 82, Hite Hollow Road. Proceed 1.5 miles and the range is on your right.

Thanks, Speedy!!! I've checked it out on mapquest and it does look easy to find. I just wish it weren't so far away.

I might make the ride over there, it looks to be about an hour from the house. I'll have to see what the wife wants to do. If she doesn't want to go for a ride maybe my oldest son will.

Young doesn't like long rides so I've had to do some horse trading with her, but we'll be there. Looking forward to meeting all of you.

Looking forward to meeting you, Speedy. I'm hoping to give all of my favorites a good workout and also have a couple new ones I haven't fired yet. I am looking forward to sending much lead downrange.

I let it go cheap with what all I let go with it... brass, dies, 200+ loaded rounds (worth $5.00 EACH on line! ). I let it go for $700.00. Bought a S&W Model 59 and a Ruger 22/45 w/red dot and 3 magazines!

I saw it go quickly. I was thinking about, especially since you were offering dies, brass, and ammo. Sorry I didnt make the move. What I'd really like is a DE in .44 or .50. Maybe for Christmas!!!

Get the DE. It has support, is STILL in production and is a proven platform. My AutoMag was a good gun and worked well but that can't be said for all of them.
