Whats the laws about having a rifle or SBR in a car. Can a loaded mag be in the rifle as long as theres no round in the chamber and does said rifle need to be in the trunk or can it be behind a seat.

Back before I started working on a military installation, keeping a rifle in the truck was SOP for me. Cased with mags in the side pockets. Blanket over the case to keep prying eyes away. Keeping a loaded rifle in your vehicle could cause problems with your local game warden.

+1 on that especialy this time of year as deer season is about to start.

I have always followed the rule that my rifle is unloaded and in the case while driving in my truck.

I'm told it is illegal to carry loaded rifle or shotgun in a car in Virginia. Pistol, too, unless you have a CHP. Hunter safety classes in Va teach that you must carry rifles & shotguns unloaded with action open, cased and out of sight. The "out of sight" part is scary. I've hauled many a long gun in a case in the back seat. They aren't real strict on that. Basically, it should be stowed so it will not be perceived as a a threat to an officer.

It's up to the locality.
