We have just learned that the Virginia Department of Forestry has opened a final comment period on a proposed regulation to allow concealed carry in State Forests!

As you might recall we had a victory back in February on getting a regulation approved to allow concealed carry in State Forests. The new regulation allows us to carry in State Forests the same way we carry in State Parks currently - concealed with a CHP.

NOTICE: ***That regulation has NOT yet taken effect. We are about to take the last step before final approval. Do NOT carry in State Forests until I let you know that it is OK to do so. ***

We only have until July 8th to respond (the comment period started on June 8th, but we didn't know about it until now - BIG thanks for Julie Nisley catching this!)

Currently there is only ONE comment posted - mine on behalf of VCDL (I'll bet you guys can move that count upward really quick!).

2. Click on the "In Progress" symbol under "Comment Period" at the bottom of the page

3. Click on "Enter a comment"

4, Enter your name, email address, subject, comment, and the two letter code (found at the bottom, which is used to verify you are a real person sitting at a keyboard).

Sample subject line: "Please approve concealed carry in State Forests!"

Sample message: "I support the proposed regulation change. Please expedite the change!"

First, good work! We are at 926 comments in 16 hours.

Second, we need to change the message so that we can get open carry
considered as a legal means of carrying in State Forests. We need at
least 25 people to request a hearing.

To do that, we need to change the subject and messages to be similar
to these:

Suggested subject: "I support the new regulation, but open carry
needs to be allowed"

Suggested message: "I support the new regulation, but I am asking for
a hearing on allowing for the open carry of handguns State Forests.
That would bring State Forests into compliance with a formal opinion
(08-043) published in September 2008 by the Virginia Attorney General."

+1 Thanks again for posting. When he said he was the only one to have posted, I wonder how long it took for it to fill like it did... lol

I hit it as soon as I read Philip's email and then hit again using my wife's account adding the ope carry part. If anyone needs to hit it again and needs a valid but different email account, use {yourname}.vcdl@herohog.com if you like. It will resolve as a valid address.
