Does anyone know if it is legal to deer hunt with two firearms in your possession at one time?

There is a link at the upper left of this page under Legal Resources to VA Hunting Regs, from what I see on the VDGIF site, there is no prohibition against it. I, however, would not recommend that you wield dual rifles and fire them at the same time. That might fall under the prohibition against reckless gun handling!

I always was told/taught that you could not but see nothing in the regs. Curious bc I know some folks who hunt in a shotgun only county but take their shotgun as well as a muzzle loader for longer distance shots.

I have always carried a handgun while hunting. Sometimes, just a handgun.

The Hunting and Trapping in Virginia guidebook says your not supposed to carry a handgun with you unless you have a CHP. And the correct firearm must be used in each seperate season. Some counties dont allow rifles over. 22 or at all.

I've never seen any regulation against it and know it's been done. Often you will find people carrying a short range shotgun/rifle for if they spook one while entering the woods and a longer range rifle if the final spot requires it. Rifle/handgun is very popular too.

What if the person is carrying openly? I can't find any reference to your statement on the VDGIF site. I would think that would be contained on their regulations page. :dunno:

According to the state regulations:
Rifles used for deer or bear must be .23 caliber or larger.

Granted, some localities may not have a rifle season, but I don't think that they can restrict you to no more than a .22 for bear or deer.
