sig 229 .22lr + 9mm conversion

Found a sig 229 .22lr on topgunsupply for $500. A x-change 9mm conversion was like $350. A sig 229 in 9mm is about $850 and a .22lr conversion is $350. So what is the deal here? Is the 9mm conversion unlikely to fit and function well or what. Is the .22lr 229 inferior in some way?
