There is some ammo out there using small pistol primers. Some of it is marked "NT" for non-toxic and is meant for use in indoor ranges.

I posted about this awhile back ago. I had never seen them either. Now I've got buckets of them. It's a pain to have to seperate them for reloading. But brass is brass. You would be suprised how many different .45acp brands I have that have small primers.

All of the Federal ammo from WalMart has the small pistol primers. Coincidentally (?), this is the ammo that was recalled last year.

This was posted in Speer bullet site.
A number of factory 45 Auto cartridges are fitted with small primer pockets. There is no safety hazard in reloading these cases with standard small pistol primers. However, most published load data is developed using cartridge cases with large primer pockets and standard large pistol primers. A small pistol primer should have no trouble igniting a 45 Auto charge but may produce slightly less pressure.
Awaiting email response from Federal
