Pawn shops don't get mentioned here a lot, but you can generally find good deals on firearms.

I stopped by A-Z Pawn to check out a tool box they had outside, the tool box was in horrible shape, I went inside anyway. The shop is a mess, piles of tools lining shelves in no particular order. I looked around for a bit and didn't see anything of interest, the tools were in okay shape, but nothing I needed. I wandered around one of the isles and saw some long guns on the far wall. I checked out a nice Mossberg with a folding stock and marine finish, but the price was too steep at $350; then a blued one with a 21-inch barrel and some electrical tape on the stock it was marked at $225. I said I'd take it and the employee looked at me like I was crazy, then the manager comes out and says, "You know it can take between 5 minutes and 5 days for the background check to go through. Do you know how to fill out the paperwork?" I say, "I've filled out the paperwork a couple of times and I'm sure the check will take about 2 minutes." He puts the paperwork on the counter and says, "I don't know about that." Then turns around to get something, by the time he turns back, I'm done with the forms. He says, "Okay .. I'm going to call now.." I say, "okay." He dials the number gives them the numbers and then says, "Oh .. I guess you guys aren't too busy today." He hangs up and says, "Well I guess you were right, tell you what, I'll give you the shotgun for $180, because I don't know what is going on with this electrical tape." Turns out the stock was trashed, but I got a nice new Hogue off of Brownells for $25.

Overall the experience was okay, I got a good deal and I'm sure they deal with a bunch of douche bags, so I'm not surprised the manager came off a big gruff.
