What are your thoughts about these drop in SBR conversion kits for handguns. The ones I've seen are the RONI conversion for Glock, Springfield XD, Sig, etc., and. Hera's conversion system. What do you all think? I'm aware of the regulations here, just wondering about the practicality and application of these systems.

Pistol calibers are always short-er range firearms.

Seems like it might be an interesting range toy.

I've already got a variety of SBR'ed pistol caliber carbines, so the appeal to me is quite limited.

I guess they're fine as far as they go. Personally, I'd only get a RONI if I had a conversion plate for the Glock to go in it. Semi-auto only would be terrifically boring.

With an optic, they'd almost certainly have to be easy to be accurate with at longer ranges.

I shouldered a RONI at one of the buying shows and found that it pointed very nicely. I would bet you would gain accuracy at over 50 yards and maybe 100 yards depending on caliber. plus you could add unlimited scopes and sight systems and any other toy like lasers and lights. I bet it would be a sweet toy and well worth the $200 tax stamp. Where else can you get a SBR for $600 that has unlimited access to 32rd magazines?

Now I'm wondering if anyone makes extended Glock barrels in .357 Sig. Eight to ten inches should do it. Threaded a bonus.

The mp5/10mm I think is about the best of the subguns.

The nice part of the 10, is you can get a 135 running 1600 FPS, or a nice 200 into the subsonic range.

I really wonder what the crono would say about doubletaps 125. I've got it on the shelf, just haven't run it across the screens.

I wish they made the RONI for the big frame of the glock because the 10mm in a shoulder mounted weapon would beat all!

They don't list anything that's even six inches. .357 Sig seems to need more length to really shine.

Yes it does, and more heavily constructed bullets than are typically available in .355 diameter.

Don't know your background, so its hard to accept this on face value. Do you have any references to long term/high round count testing that suggests longevity?

I know of a few mp5 9mm that ran well past 250,000 rounds and had worn out several parts, but the barrel/frame/trunion were still within factory specifications and the accuracy was also meeting published requirements.

Even if I only get 1/3 that round count before it wears out I'll be happy enough. 80,000 rounds of 10mm is a heck of a lot of cash.

Didn't the feds ditch the MP5/10s because they were beating themselves to death?

Don't know for sure, but I know a guy I can ask... former H&K employee who was on the fed/leo sales side of things. Given all the nuggets he has told I'm sure he has some knowledge about this...

The Feds still have them and they are the only ones to have them but the problem comes into play is that the round itself over penatrates for urban use. So with the 10mm you have to worry whats on the otherside of the wall...but the FBI still uses them
