Ok so here is the situation. You work in a small office building and the managment is ok with you carrying your weapon there. Your friend and coworker knows that you got a new toy a week or two ago and so just after work has ended and just about everyone is out of the office you take out your firearm un-load it and privately show it to your friend. Is that a crime here in VA?

Crime?. Probably not since no one is being threatened.

Is it a good idea?. No.

But then again, any business other than a gun shop that would let it's employees carry is pure fantasy any way.

You might find small family business out in the country that are fine with it.

True. But I bet their insurance carrier doesn't know about it.

Insurance is a whole 'nother ball of wax. Apparently in the great state of TX doing that is a Class A misdemeanor and kills your CHL. I said that was ridiculous--even if it was not the smartest thing to do, but a class A misdemeanor....really?

Nope not illegal just showing a friend a gun.

The gist of the argument I am having is that this fellow says if I see someone do that I am required as a good citizen to call and report them to the police for doing so because it is "against the law." Fat chance--quite honestly I would probably be over there drooling too if it was cleared and pointed in a safe direction.

There is nothing wrong with showing a friend/acquaintance a firearm. However I would go somewhere other then my employers office. Although not illegal if coworker complains to boss they may reconsider firearm policy.

Illegal... absolutely not. Well unless you go pointing and frightening the neighbors.

A wise choice... well that depends entirely on the location, and the management.

The upside to you is quite low, vs the risk.

IMO declare a goto the range at lunch day and show it off properly.

I'd have to agree. While not illegal, it is probably a generally bad idea. Next thing you know some guy will come in and want to show you how he can spin his loaded revolver around on his trigger finger and then wham, no more gun friendly atmosphere at the business.

+1 on bad idea...

Do take said friend to appropriate range and wring out the new toy in a safe and appropriate manner.

LOL not my management. Happened to someone in TX and apparently there it is a crime. Though he was not charged a few are arguing he should be. Now I agree it is not the smartest thing to do. Glad to know VA is not insane on everything.

They say everything is bigger in Texas,,,,Including the Bullshit laws...

In my opinion if you are carrying concealed
Nobody should know.
I consider it a major fop-ah if anybody gets an idea I might be packing.
There are good reasons for the Op-Sec.
Nothing good can be gained by this "show and tell" at the office or in any public space.
Its not a "new toy"
its a concealed deadly weapon
and the reasons you carry should be gravely serious reasons.

You are not brandishing the firearm, therefore you are not violating the law. Your are simply having a moment of show and tell. Good on you girl!

There is (or was) a jewelry store in Richmond that required firearm proficiency of it's employees. The owner of that store would probably be first in line to check out the new weapon.
