I visited my local shop on Tuesday to purchase a handgun and was told that they needed to contact another jurisdiction. I still don't have an answer and have been asked to check back tomorrow. I have purchased 3 others in the past an never an issue plus I have a clean record. what could be the hold up? HELP

do you have a common-ish name? that can cause delays requiring further research.

may be just a false hit then. or maybe they're just having system issues. did your ffl call the transaction center for the update or was it an auto-response from the instant check system?

my last purchase was delayed a day because the vsp/nics system was down on earthquake day last week. mid-day the next day i got a call that the approval was in.

Could have been an input error. The only time I've ever gotten delayed, the dealer typed my name in wrong.

Are you sure you didn't accidently move to California?

Not sure what the "other jurisdiction" issue means. I'm thinking that your hold-up has to do with some of the complications of the recent weather event that we had. But maybe the gun store needs to make a call, too, to move the process along.

You may have provided your SSN, but did they actually use it?

Another jurisdiction? That's a new one on me. Hope it comes through soon.

In truth, when I went to pay on my GreenTop layaway, there were a PLETHORA of guns with the "Background Check" form listed on them...

Personally? I think the State Police are playing politics to see how long we'll wait till someone contacts VCDL/GOA/NRA, and raise cane!

Because in a way? It's a back door waiting period!

nothing other than this still under VSP investigation and they have to wait. they could give me the gun, but if not approved, VSP could come to my house to get it.

I have never had any problems with my other guns when I lived in MD (waiting period was better than this) or in PA which took all of 5 minutes.

I have to look at Virginia's stuff more - I know that federally, they seize the gun only if it comes back as a denial.
