And a true Southern Gentlemen, or Lady would never be that rude. We've got a small percentage of "white trash" along with the rest of the nation, but most of us will tell them to "Hush! Behave yer-self! Where are yer manners?"
Trust me. "Culture" isn't white sheets, and cross burning. It's generations from the Commonwealth who stood up to Tyranny, hence Sic Semper Tyrannis, as our state motto. Those of us from far back have little use for those who cannot, or will not, do it on their own.
Since you obviously are a gun owner, a hard worker, and right minded. Welcome! Enjoy some pie, maybe partake of our delicious ham!

Ham... AND pie? Where do you live? I'll be right over. I hope you like wine or bourbon.
Agreed - it happens everywhere. Hate is not a cultural or family *value*.
Now back to this pie and ham....

Its a factual representative sample of the US prison system, in which blacks make up about half of all the incarcerated. So anyone randomly taking a photo in a prison has a 50% chance of all prisoners being black.
Reality is racist, much to the dismay of the PC police.
Re: A preview of what's to come in 2012?
You are right. I am a "carpetbagger" moving to the Roanoke area, I spent some time there looking around, and I have a very distinctive accent, very old New Yawk.Reverenddel wrote:"YOU LOST. Get over it."-Cowboy T...
Then why are you in the South again? If it's for economic reasons, or freedoms in your 2ndAm, or lower taxes... we didn't lose...
We just changed tactics. Because you CANNOT win the presidency without THE SOUTH. There is a migration from the NorthEast TO THE SOUTH! Those on the LEFT coast are migrating where? TO THE SOUTH!
So we DID NOT lose, we just took you financially, politically, and with our charm, and social graces in a totally different war!
Oh no... WE WON! With a biscuit, and gravy on the side!
It might settle up this NEW breed of "Carpetbagger" who insists on telling we "lowly inbred rednecks/hillbillies" how we're doing it "ALL WRONG"!![]()
I ,for one, am SICK of hearing how "bad" it is in the Commonwealth with all us "lowbrow"folks. Don't like us? MOVE BACK TO WHERE EVER YOU ARE FROM, AND LEAVE US BE!
Luckily I can copy a Texan accent from my time in the Army when pulled over by a cop anywhere in the South.
The people were very friendly, and regarded me as a curiosity or a novelty, they asked alot of questions about where I'm from, say they wish they could visit, etc.
I understand not many New Yorkers have moved there, hence my good reception. truth be told we are best taken in very small doses.
When i visited my in-laws in South Carolina, the situation was totally different. The Carolinas got hit hard by the Exodus, I personally know alot of people in one of them, and they know they're hated. I was treated very rudely whenever I spoke, but when I was quiet (since us white folks all look the same I guess), I was treated very politely.
Of course as you say it does not help the Northerners look down on the "natives", my relatives referred to their neighbors as "yokels" "hicks" etc. Curiously I wonder do they not understand they will just recreate the hell they came from in 10 years if they force it to change?

Carpetbagging...hmmm, a clearly understood term....SO, please tell me this...for someone like Hillary Clinton who "carpetbagged" her way into the senate --- what do we call the voters who put her there???????? -- Carpetbag Toters maybe...
No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

Gosh Gunderwood, trying to make up for that Tytler attribution?
To quote a frequent poster of this forum:
I'm glad such a learned yankee such as yourself have read that monstrous tome.. TWICE, and feels free to dictate to the backward Southerners that one of our own has misinterpreted its application to real life... after all, how are we to know the practicalities of our own existence, but quite frankly I couldn't give a damn because your lecturing completely missed the point.

Yeah, that was a damned shame. She had a house in Chappaqua, Westchester county; to show how in touch she was with actual New Yorkers another famous person with a home there is Bill Gates.
We sure do love doing dumb stuff in this state. Like guaranteeing our parasite public "service" (as in we serve them) unions an 8% return on their pension, so if the market goes -20%, why, we just make up the difference. Bankrupt? How could that have happened?
yeah, this state blows. Well, the Exodus(the actual name used by our local media for the massive outflow of people) continues unabated.

Re: A preview of what's to come in 2012?
North and South is not relevant to this discussion. It is a simple matter that the concept was used wrong (as others have provided quotes to back up) and because of that you had a misunderstanding of the concept since you have not read the book. The objective was never anything more than to clarify the concept by correcting the error. Allow me to remind you:LFS wrote:Gosh Gunderwood, trying to make up for that Tytler attribution?

Your provided solution does not work because you had the wrong concept of what was covered in Rands novel.LFS wrote:Put a cap on how much debt the government can take on. The rest takes care of itself as the hard working, high taxed will eventually "go Galt".gunderwood wrote:How do you keep those who are receiving government monies from voting themselves more of the wealth?
But the thing about land ownership confuses me. Even those who don't own land pay property taxes, just not directly.
As to your being backward, I never claimed that. I did claim that you used the concept wrong, explained why, and seem to have won an admission that you have never read the book. If you are indeed backward, it would be because of the way you have handled the error...or is that non-error?
Now you have put words in my mouth and have provided no counter-argument, but plenty of implied name calling. Besides, just because something appears impractical does not mean it is false. In fact that is exactly what I have argued. It is impractical exactly because of the paraphrase quote I originally mis-attributed. I.e. That people are not upset over the amount of debt, but rather that the debt was incurred for things they won't personally benefit from...just as the other political side is not upset at the current debt despite ragging against the war incurred debt, despite the war debts being the much smaller of the two. In a weird sort of way you have come full circle. I point you to the underlined quote of myself above. Perhaps you are being argumentative rather than arguing a point?LFS wrote:... followed by conspiratorial hand waving and subsequent reductionist logic that the only true measure is complete elimination of the national debt. A balanced budget is a balanced budget and taking on more debt is not. It is as simple as that. It won't happen because no one wants to live within their means...that is why I wanted to bet against it.

" I hope you like wine or bourbon."
I'm SOUTHERN! OF COURSE I love Bourbon!
Again, One of my "brotha's in camp" is a NYPD Detective Transplant (Notice I did NOT call him a "Carpetbagger"?!), who took to the culture QUICKLY!
He realizes that the "Yankee Hordes" (Exodus is too close to a POSITIVE movement of people for my take) came down, insulted the locals, voted in the same mindset that caused the problems up there, and treated everyone like they're stupid.
So he adapted to the culture.
Granted it helps that I've traveled up north to Nu Yawk a few times, eaten at some of the same places, and can appreciate some of the culture up there.
In the small rural towns, being from "the big city" is something of an oddity. When approached EN MASSE, and acting like conquerors? Yeah, no... not a good way to make people comfortable with your decided change of venue.
Someone asked me what would happen if I moved up North, or out West?
I thought about moving out to Nevada for awhile... Looked at the laws, looked at the tax rates, looked at the schools, and here I sit...
A man's gotta know his limitations.
Now, back to ham, and pecan pie... the debate rages on that though..
Is it "PEA-CAN", or "PUH-KAHN"... I've always said "Pea-can" pie... dunno if that's correct or not.

I have a friend that works for a company in Chicago - gun friendly! - and lives in WV.
whaaaa? The company is gun friendly? How does that matter a whit, if you can't have a gun in that whole buttsniffin' state? You can hang pictures of guns in your cube?

That was sarcasm, Tweaker. Chicago is hardly gun friendly, while WV is.
I use the two interchangeably - puh-kahn since that is how the locals down in SC called it. Puhkahn pie. We lived on base and were fortunate to have a pecan tree in our yard. Even the dog would go out and eat them.
Now if it's a divinity roll, it's pea-kahn. No idea why. Probably because that's what I heard from another local.

Hhhhmmm, if we had a "Southern Orientation", would it make it easier for the transplants, and "Come-Here's"?
That would be a bit more hospitable than throwing you into Southern social situations without having some graces taught.
The Carpetbaggers don't care. (shrugs) No pie, ham, or biscuits fer them I guess!
One more thing, there are REDNECKS everywhere! I've met them in Las Vegas )(natives who love the desert), PA, NY, MI, WA, etc. etc. It's all in your social graces, and your mannerisms.
SOUTHERNERS have a different way about them. Some good, some bad, but definitely DIFFERENT! I'll stay with "Pea-Can"... it's more Richmond, than Southern... Grant saw to that... the bastage.

Yes, to you its probably less an "exodus" and more of an "invasion" or "infestation", but I was simply using the term our own local media uses to describe the mass migration of people out of the state of New York.
When the mover came to give me a quote he said I was the sixth guy my age leaving that he quoted that day-and it was 10AM.
