For anyone interested, I just did an interview with NBC 12 regarding this situation with the permits.

I'm just finishing up taking a Utah carry license class. Should have my permit within 60 days. I shouldn't have had to do it, but I do visit some some of the states that VA is rejecting in reciprocacy.

I'm assuming that the interview should air tonight at 5 or 6pm. The reporter had interviewed Sen. Carrico earlier about this.

Perhaps the Govenor should remember that line about tantrums when he picks up his pen next. He didn't get his was in the election so now he is throwing an executive temper tantrum. We are just his employer about to spank him for it.

Or at least talk about doing it......which is what I fear.

So, I have had some communications with the Chairman of the House Committee on Militia, Police and Public Safety. The Chairman is "wholeheartedly against this action". He has sent communications to the Superintendent of the Virginia State Police urging him to to immediately suspend this action.

If the Superintendent does not suspend this action, he is going to get called to the carpet by the Chairman and forced to testify before the Committee this month to explain/justify the actions. The House and the Senate are ready to pass a bill into law, which will prevent any further action on behalf of the Superintendent and/or the AG and protect the Rights and safety of Virgina citizens and our guests.

I am very optimistic that with the actions of the Chairman of the House Committee on Militia, Police and Public Safety, combined with actions that State Congress are ready to take, this political move on behalf of the Governors office is NOT going to happen. No one can promise, obviously, but it is leaning heavily in our favor.

I've had a couple of legislators with seniority and influence tell me they intend to pursue this matter vigorously, too.

But all the same, I have scheduled a Utah non-resident training class on the 30th.

Now if we had enough votes to override- T-Mac's veto? That would rock!

State police must be present at all gun shows to administer background checks in private sales of guns on a voluntary basis.

Anyone subject to a permanent protective order for a domestic violence offence will be prohibited from carrying a firearm for the two-year life of the order.

#2 is something we private citizens should always have had access to already.

McAuliffe to restore handgun reciprocity in deal with Republicans

RICHMOND — Gov. Terry McAuliffe plans to announce Friday that Virginia will restore handgun reciprocity agreements with nearly all states, in a stunning reversal of firearms policy that angered Republicans and gun rights advocates across the nation.


The about-face is part of a deal that McAuliffe (D) struck with Republican leaders one month after Attorney General Mark R. Herring (D) severed the right for gun owners in 25 states to have their concealed carry permits recognized in Virginia.


In exchange, Republicans will agree to some concessions, according to McAuliffe’s office and the office of House Speaker William J. Howell (R-Stafford).


If an individual’s Virginia concealed-carry permit is revoked, a permit from another state will not be honored in Virginia — a practice known as “state shopping.”


State police must be present at all gun shows to administer background checks in private sales of guns on a voluntary basis.


Anyone subject to a permanent protective order for a domestic violence offence will be prohibited from carrying a firearm for the two-year life of the order.


The policy changes will come in the form of bipartisan legislation before the General Assembly.

Gun rights advocates reacted bitterly last month when Herring announced his firearms policy, accusing Herring of politicizing his office to erode the Second Amendment.


“This decision is both dangerous and shameful,” Chris Cox, executive director of the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action said in December after the announcement. “At a time when people are scared and desperately need the ability to defend themselves, Herring has chosen the path of making self-defense harder.”


But Democrats said Herring was applying Virginia concealed-carry standards set by the General Assembly to everyone who sets foot in the state.


“This action is a reflection of the law a conservative Republican legislature has crafted over the years,” Sen. A. Donald McEachin (D-Henrico) said. “And now, when the attorney general actually follows the law, conservative Republicans are squealing about it.”

My Thoughts:
About time someone with some common sense did something.

Anyone else get the feeling that this was the plan all along in order to extort something from the Republicans in control of the GA?

Like a wise man once said, the left wing and the right wing are all on the same bird.

Yes, this was a game. The governor also got push back from the DNC over seats that would definitely be lost, but in the end, it was a game to get compromises out of we gun owners. And by compromises, we gave up another slice of our pie so we can use our fork. It's bullshit.

Eh... I don't look at it so negatively.

If a guy has a 2 year restraining for smacking the crap out of his wife or kid... I'm pretty sure I don't want that guy armed.

As for as the background checks go... that's a win for us. Private sales background checks have been voluntary for a very long time.. this is not new. The only change there is, now the State Police will have a booth to process those voluntary background checks instead of people asking vendors to do it. Vendors can say no, the SPD can't. And I have to be honest, if I don't know you and you don't have a valid CHP, I'm not selling you a weapon without a background check. Its not personal. Its just a CYA for me.
